Armagh v Cavan - Ulster Semi-final and Replay

I know the final score was hard to take, but at the same time we were a couple of points behind nearing the end of the game and we had to push to try and reel in the difference and left gaps, which Cavan exploited. So I wouldn't read too much into the difference at the end, Cavan did deserve to win, but the difference was a bit flattering. Other than the four goal chances, I can recall Nugent having a bad wide on his left foot which was at a decent angle to score from. Rian O'Neill dropped one into the keepers hands in the second half when he should have passed to Campbell who would have had an easy finish. Campbell then hit a bad wide to draw us level, after doing well to win a tough ball, when he had time to steady himself or lay it off to someone else. Take into account that the mainstay of our defence was missing, our star midfielder wasn't right and Cavan, who have been playing at a higher level for a long time now, barely missed, we weren't that far off. Those first two goal chances that we missed were criminal and it's those fine margins which count at this level.

As there's been a certain amount of praise - possibly rightly - for the Cavan keeper, I'll point out he put a kick out over the sideline 3 times yesterday. miskicked twice, both times going to us and also had a few long balls not reaching their man. He also missed a relatively easy free compared to the couple he pinged over.

Rory Beagan is one of the best keepers of the modern game (in my opinion) and he hit two kick outs over the sideline yesterday and also missed a couple of frees. Drove the ball along the ground instead of high to the midfield at least twice putting his defence under pressure.

Niall Morgan (regarded as a fine keeper by some) hit one over the sideline on Saturday evening. Mis-hit quite a few kick outs gifting Donegal possession and a couple of scores. He also missed at least 3 [easy by his standards] frees and that's just 3 goal keepers from this weekend. Even the great aren't always good.

On Blaine's competition - Sean ohanlon from my own club left the panel a number of weeks ago. I didn't hear his reasons and I don't know if there are other keepers there. It wasn't Oisin O'Neill warming up with Blaine yesterday, was it kearney from Ogs?
Waited till he got his free holiday then left, not so slow wobbles

All said and covered except I think (and it's only an opinion so don't shoot me) it's time we chased the management team and got a fantasy management that supposedly won't take on the role under the leadership of the current county board executives and because they won't get paid enough and that's not a rumour! We also need to get the county chairman to do a Rumba on to the field in front of the team as they come out of the tunnel with cheerleaders and dancers - male and female, straight and gay/other of course to entertain all before the games so we do.

Management need to be publicly flogged and those saying to back off the management haven't a clue what they're talking about, so they don't.

We only scored 17 points yesterday which is an absolute disgrace and if only the management had of let the players shoot more we might not have missed as many so we mightn't.

We only had 15 players on the field at any given time yesterday and that was a complete disgrace for which the management should hang their head in shame. They should have sent another 7 or 8 players on and argued with the officials at all times so they didn't notice. Completely inept so they are!

We didn't have a fight with Cavan at the start behind the band to disrupt their game plan and for that the management should hang their heads in shame and resign immediately. They have no bottle so they haven't.

Management only spent 42.11672134% of the game actually on the line and only 23.2241782% of that time communicating with them selves or someone else. Again severe flogging required so they do.

And as for this leaving the field at the end of the game! What the hell was that about? Could they not have stayed there all evening just for amusement like?

Overall 9.5 out of 10 for something so it is!

Dust well settled at this stage. I just knew after 10 mins yesterday that we had done enough to lose this game by missing the goal chances. Whatever people want to say about management or our goalkeeper (2 championship clean sheets in a row), we simply can't afford to miss those chances. Nugent and Shields should have squared their chances for simple punch-ins, absolutely no excuse for this - I'm sure Geezer will be asking them why they didn't do this. It's down to composure. We simply don't have it. I think 1 goal would have changed the game and been enough. Vernon and Burns were in major diffs from the get-go - we need to be quicker on this - there's enough managers/selectors watching the same as us! Jamie had excellent 2nd half but missed 1-1 in first half that was unforgivable. Soupy is pure class - a powerful man running from deep.
Once again, when the game was there for the taking late-on, we failed to deliver. This is a MAJOR worry and we seem to hit nosebleed territory as soon as winning is on the table. Expect the same to happen if we can keep up with Monaghan.
I'm very worried about Monaghan as they'll really lift their game and be buzzing for us.
I really don't know how this will transpire - we are very unpredictable!! Let's all get out to Clones and give the lads the support they'll need!!

@thecritic the goals chances, Nugent in particular will learn from the experience. Better decision-making comes with experience.

Cavan deserve credit too. When we got near them, they worked some very good scores to go ahead again.

We’re still there. Monaghan aren’t unbeatable. We are capable of beating them.

Here, I’ve been thinking. Dangerous I know...

But we are now the county with the longest wait for an Ulster final appearance.

Well, technically Cavan haven’t played in it yet, but you know what I mean, so you do.

Depressing eh?
