Senior championship.

It official Crossmaglen’s status as Armagh footballs sole superpower is gone. Don’t get me wrong they’re always going to be contenders for the senior but there will now be 4 or 5 clubs alongside them who will consider themselves equals. Killeavy, CE, Madden, Ballymacnab and of course Maghery would all fancy themselves next year. I don’t think cross’s underage system is any better now than the other clubs I mentioned and if the two O’Neill didn’t come through for cross a couple years ago would they of even made the final. All in all I think a more competitive senior championship will benefit Armagh as a whole. Congratulations to Maghery.

It’s unfortunate that the Ulster Club championship is not scheduled this year. I think Maghery would have gave it a better rattle this time. It’s unfortunate for a club that hasn’t represented Armagh on the provincial stage much, not to get another go at it.

Apparently Moriarty said they (Maghery) would be open to the idea of scheduling the Ulster series in the new year.

I’d like to see that, rather than McKenna Cup. Give most players a rest until the NFL (assuming it runs as normal).

Lavery maybe not as mobile as he was, but still useful.

Didn’t realise Cusack was 38. Didn’t stop him getting up and down the pitch. Took some beautiful scores too. A lovely player to watch.

No different to the likes of Kernan etc for Cross who must be retiring on your logic. Every club side has older players, it is the nature of the game at club level. Looking at Underage development, Maghery are by far the furthest behind all those sides but they have a knack of producing senior players with limited underage numbers. There is no hard and fast method for success at club level unfortunately.

There are a number of clubs in the county who potentially could challenge. Cross, Maghery and the Nab as the main ones obviously.

Behind you have CE, Killeavy, Ogs, Madden and possibly Grange (who have serious potential). We are also starting to see the beginnings of a Resurgence of Clan na Gael which is very very welcome. So yes things are getting a little more competitive.

Very disappointed however with the fall of St. Pats and Armagh Harps. Particularly the Harps, after their championship win they have dropped a lot in quality and hunger it would seem.

That for me was the thing that stood out on Sunday. Hunger! You need an intangible drive to win championship football and for all the talent or underage success - if you don’t have it well???? Maghery had it in abundance on Sunday... Cross always have it. Its for the other clubs to find it.

Well done Maghery. Excellent game with some cracking goals. Third goal was a peach.

Missed the second goal, as my stream was interrupted (am referring to coverage on Armagh TV and not any issue with the old prostate)

Have always enjoyed the Crossmaglen approach to playing football; emphasis on foot passing, always keen to move the ball forward and a real reluctance to use a blanket defence or even a sweeper. Can be great to watch, but I wonder if that approach is ultimately what has cost them in some of the recent Ulster Club championships and on last Sunday. Full back line really could have benefited somebody dropping back to provide additional coverage, but that does not seem to be part of the Cross philosophy

I'm afraid your very, very wrong
Armagh TV cameras looking down the stand will only show heads, not real spacing.

The BBC cameras in their highlights are very clear as they look directly across

As another poster has stated there was a row of seats between people and seats between groupings

Perhaps attending a game you'd see for yourself how well spaced out people were. Did you even look at the BBC snippets?

Face coverings are not mandatory by any government or organisation when attending outdoor events
If people in society took their responsibility then they can make their own decisions
There are places where it is mandatory but even then do shops make persons wear them - no they can't
Stop looking for issues that aren't there.

There was also an Armagh TV camera which panned across part of the stand with a view from the pitchside up. I'll allow you the fact that it may look very different when in the stadium but it did not look great on either match I watched on Armagh TV.

To be honest I don't want a slanging match on a public forum (not what this site is for) but I am as entitled to my opinion about the pandemic & matches as you are. I am making my own decision in not attending matches because I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so. In the same way you are perfectly entitled to attend because you obviously feel you are at little risk & all the necessary precautions are in place for you to do so, however I don't think that makes you right or me wrong or vice versa. As for looking for issues that aren't there, for me it is an issue hence my non attendance.

Anyhow, time to let the good folk on here continue the chat about the football.

This isn't a public slanging match
It's about facts and camera angles can be deceiving, we've all witnessed that many times.
Let's get on with the forum in its factual form :)

As is his younger brother who was playing tonight as well
I remember Oisin McConville on the GAA hour podcast after we beat down last year and rian had done really well. He alluded to a younger brother being the best of them all. Is that Dara?
