Bit of a lesson for Armagh there, they should have been able to keep a point or two ahead. Not a bad lesson to get.

Total collapse the second half. With all the subs made, there was never going to be much continuity, but even so that was not good to see.

Never seen the game but was following it on Twitter, all I saw was point from free to Monaghan, bad tackles or a bad referree?

Really difficult to know what is going to happen with this team this season. Old habits are still there (losing a comfortable lead in last 2 games). We need to hit the ground running, Dublin, Kerry, Tyrone, Mayo, Monaghan and Donegal - especially Monaghan are going to target us and Kildare for the two points.

A few new players brought in for defence probably could have done with more time together in McKenna.

There is a feeling of familiarity for this season but a sinking feeling to go with.

I felt that the referee decided to completely ignore the steps rule when a Minaghan player was bottled up by more than one Armagh player, free given to them every time. The one occasion we had the same scenario, 3 players bottling up an Armagh player we get done for overcarrying.

We gifted them far too many easy frees to get them into the game & some of our "tackling" which resulted in frees, poor is being kind.

We could & should have won the game in normal time, as for penalties to decide the result, not a fan, but then again if we'd won I'd probably think they were great :)

Some excellent play but also some silly mistakes especially in the last few minutes when we kicked away two balls that should have been held and got to the man in a better position. Maybe Geezer would rather avoid a Donegal game at this stage. There appeared to be some poor refereeing decisions in the second half favouring Monaghan but I can't be sure as I was at the other end of the stand. Anyone have a closer look? All in all I'm not terribly annoyed with the result, we have learned plenty and a rest might do them no harm before the dubs.
Player wise, I would have some reservations about the keeper although these could be attributed to his youth. Ciaran Mackin has the makings of a great player. Conor O'Neill did very well. Forker guilty of a few schoolboy errors (why did he punch that ball and try to walk through 2 men?) Grimley was excellent. Conarie Mackin also guilty of some poor tackling. Grugan quieter than usual. Nugent dangerous looking when he came on. McQuillan looked comfortable. Rian O'Neill is not human.

Id love a knowledgeable stats person to total the amount of times armagh have been leading a game with 15 minutes to go and failed to win over the past 7/8 years. It must be double or treble any other county.
The referee wasn’t great but the amount of poor frees given away tonight was criminal. Ciaran Higgins gave away one straight after half time when he had just given away a very poor one with the last play of the first.
I find that inability to learn hard to understand.
We really really lack a go to kick out when under pressure.
Also felt Conor o neill was a massive loss and really hope he is fit for croke park.

Shame not to get a crack at a McKenna Cup final, but maybe not the end of the world with the Dublin game on the horizon. Given the number and timings of our substitutions tonight, I'd say the management were of similar mind. The result was very much secondary to getting miles in the legs for as many men as possible.

There are a few boys for me that look a bit behind the rest on their conditioning. Some of them experienced fellas too, so they've a bit of work to do to get up to speed for the league. Mixed bag of stuff from the newer players, as can be expected. Was impressed with Ciaran Mackin though - big lad with and good engine and decent in the air. Definitely an immediate option for us somewhere in the middle 8. Magill in goals had a couple of wobbles, but the length of his kickouts is impressive. He was able to clear the midfield with one tonight. This is an important asset for GKs in the game today, as longer kickouts make it much more demanding for the opposition to effectively push up. Hughes is not blessed with a particularly long kickout, and this is one avenue through which Magill could feasibly challenge him for the jersey.

Game itself is difficult to really analyse given the amount of changes and the fact both managements were more concerned with players getting game time than anything else. A draw was probably a fair result - we were a good bit the better team in the first half, but Monaghan dominated possession in the second. Maybe with a more sympathetic referee we would've held on by a point or two. Penalties are silly in Gaelic football.

Beggan's positioning seem to really confuse us in the second half. When we counterattacked while he was up the pitch, we seemed to panic and try to force some advantage from the unusually open goal. But unless someone was going to take a pop from 70 yards then it didn't really matter where Beggan was. More patience at these junctures could've yielded an extra couple of scores, but I suppose it's difficult with a giddy crowd roaring at the situation. Something to work on for the league encounter, when he'll likely be at the same craic.

We also need to remember we played on Saturday a tough physical game.
Monaghan played at least 8 days previous so although they were training they didn't play a competitive game recently.

Some great play, some poor shot selection, didn't score enough from the amount of possession.

However the major plus in the three games is the amount of players who got game time and we didn't do to badly in the three games.
We've come a long way and I have no doubt we will more than hold our own in division one.

Picking a starting 15 may be difficult, deciding on the 15 who finish a game is another thing.

Hopefully those who came off tonight are precautionary rather than serious injury.
One thing is it's an awful shame the amount of injuries Andrew Murnin had over the years. He has an ability to make a bad ball look good and his handling is superb. I seriously hope he has a great year, if he does we will do well
I thought Niall Rowland, Conor ONeill, Ciaran Higgins, Ciaran Mackin, Aidan Forker have done very well in defence.

When James Morgan is available it's a tight unit.

From number 8 to 15 there are so many permutations and options.
Let's hope it clicks more often than not.
