Is it time to consider new management?

Physical measures in exercise performance and analysis on areas such as ground covered, scores/goals taken, scores/goals missed, tackles avoided, tackle success/fail rates, shooting positions, shots saved, time in possession, pass success rates, blocks, saves, frees etc etc. There is a lot to analyse but I would say it would be worth it. The disadvantage of it would be there's too many clubs to watch.
So your thinking do the above for all clubs? To build a database of player info?

All clubs would have to do is record games with a camera. One person could then analyse players performance from these recordings and create a stastical database of players performances over the championship. Initially use league A teams. This would make it possible to identify players based on various sets of criteria for instance, best free taker from 45, successful tackles, shots blocked etc etc.

Having a comprehensive database of club players across the county would undoubtedly benefit the county team. From there you could move on to other county teams and identify their strengths and weaknesses. It would work and a lot of counties will eventually go down this route but if the county started it now how performed analysis would be years ahead of other counties.

Sounds like a good idea
Would.you not need a few cameras to cover runs made over distances, runs made off the ball etc...
Who would analyse this?
Who pays for this?

There is a few ways this can be done.

Tracking players it would be ideal to buy sports tracking equipment. Using this would allow management to look at heat maps, distance covered, player position etc to see how much ground is covered etc (Tyrone used something similar with their bras a few years ago).

There is a cheaper option where it is possible to develop a program that could break the pitch down into grids and players could be tagged/tracked with that during video analysis. This would make it easier for analysing the opposition. A cheaper alternative would be a smart watch.

Could you imagine what it would be like for management to have live analysis of each player, knowing when they need motivation, what they are doing wrong, being in position etc.

Would it require an internship or paid position, or would it be possible to train a few volunteers? It would benefit club's across the county, underage development, change the way management is looked at. If this was done right it would put us years ahead of other counties. I think it depends on how much of an investment the county board wants to make/can afford.

It is possible to measure a players endurance and a lot of the time universities are happy to do this in return for data. Knowing a players conditioning would help.

So many ideas come from this which is why it should be something that is looked at now.

Does this take us to semi-professional/professional player's?
Some club players wont buy into it
Some clubs definitely wont buy into it - from top to bottom
Would it not be better to do this under development squads/Academy squads? Getting the best players together so targeting those players

Apologies if this is a bit incoherent, I'm at a christening.

Whether the club's accept it or not this will be the future of the sport. I have said before we need someone that is revolutionary in their thinking and anyone who isn't able to see how the game is progressing is going to be no good in years to come. Society has changed drastically in 100 years and GAA is no different.

It wasn't long ago that sports psychology was being laughed at and now it has brought about a new dimension to team management. Every industry out there is data driven so why shouldn't we approach it the same way? As for the semi professional/professional approach, I don't think there would be a change in status.

It won't require anything more from the players, the players continue to go about their training as usual. The idea is to identify strengths and weaknesses in a players performance and find the best players in the county.

We could target it at development squads but why not use it in the senior squad? It will be beneficial to all levels.

I see even the aristocrats of the game play a outfield club player as goalkeeper. It’s maybe something we should consider - even as a back up keeper.
