It’s extremely late. What is more baffling is that division 1 have all there fixtures released. And Roscommon have theirs released. All be it they are provisional but at least it gives an idea of the weekends that need to be planned. Surely all countries received provisional dates at the same time.
You'd certainly expect that all counties would get them at the same time. It makes no sense if Fermanagh and Roscommon have theirs - even provisional and we haven't heard a rumour. Like I said before, why the hell is it all so secret. Does our county really think that we'll give other counties an advantage of some type. It's bloody baffling, like the "time added on thing". They try to keep it secret until it's announced almost suggesting if we find out we might make a run for the exits! Stupid GAA rituals!

I can't be 100% but a knowledgable lady told me today that our fixtures are:
Cavan - home - Saturday
Laois - Away - Sunday
Kildare - Home - Saturday
Westmeath - Away - Sunday
Fermanagh - Away - Sunday
Roscommon - Home - Sunday
Clare - Away - Sunday
She said something about not being public yet because Croke Park have to sign off on them, but that makes no sense to me as they do the fixtures. Someone is hiding something for some reason, unless I'm just getting cynical in my old age!

So really only two nights away Laois and Clare
The Clare match I’m actually really looking forward to, it could be a very important match plus a good weekend away

Yeah Pat that what she was saying. It sort of ties in with what I'd heard before about the first and last games, starting at home and finishing away to Clare. Stayed in a great wee B&B down that way last time we were there, so as soon as it's confirmed I'm booking again. Hope the same hen night is on in the bar beside it :D;)

Pat if we assume that the Fermanagh Facebook have the dates correct for their fixtures, then ours would be the same weekends as they list us as round 5, with those that I was given as also round 5 and they have theirs listed as (copied and pasted from Facebook):

Are you taking Mrs Jim this time? ;)

Haven’t explored Ennis properly. Might do next season if Mrs M allows me to go.

3 years in a row with only 3 games at home. So be it.
Home games haven't been kind to us over the last decade or so gfo, so I'll take whatever we get and see how we progress. I remember Geezer once saying that "a ground is a ground when your support gets behind you", although that may have been a quote from a time when we played mostly in Clones - oh to have those days back again!!!!!!

Would you go for promotion or would you be happy with staying in division 2 and making a push for the championship?
If it were me you're asking (I realise it was a general question to the forum) then my answer never changes whether it's club, county or other. Concentrate on the competition you're currently in and then see what happens as you progress. i.e. next up will be McKenna cup so that gets used to try out a few players and if we make the later stages it's more games to try lads and give the team a shakedown. The league then becomes priority with each game in turn a battle of it's own. The aim being to win each game and progress to the league final and ultimately, promotion. Either way, it sets down the platform for the summer and then it's Derry up first. Each game is treated as a mini contest needing to be won, to allow progression to the next.
That all said, at the start of the year you have ambitions and realistic goals. This year I think we "could" win promotion to division one and may well be ready for a couple of years testing against the bigger guns. An Ulster Final is surely the target this year. We've seen these lads last year, good enough to run Monaghan out of town, regardless of which rumours you listen to of disarray in their setup. We also gave Mayo a massive scare and I'm convinced after watching it back, that we could have (maybe should have) actually beaten them.

In league, a draw is a type of victory for some teams as it's not a loss, although serious teams will see it as a dropped point. In Championship, nothing but a win counts, regardless of the back door options because eventually it becomes knock out too. You gotta be in it to win it.
