Would you go for promotion or would you be happy with staying in division 2 and making a push for the championship?
If it were me you're asking (I realise it was a general question to the forum) then my answer never changes whether it's club, county or other. Concentrate on the competition you're currently in and then see what happens as you progress. i.e. next up will be McKenna cup so that gets used to try out a few players and if we make the later stages it's more games to try lads and give the team a shakedown. The league then becomes priority with each game in turn a battle of it's own. The aim being to win each game and progress to the league final and ultimately, promotion. Either way, it sets down the platform for the summer and then it's Derry up first. Each game is treated as a mini contest needing to be won, to allow progression to the next.
That all said, at the start of the year you have ambitions and realistic goals. This year I think we "could" win promotion to division one and may well be ready for a couple of years testing against the bigger guns. An Ulster Final is surely the target this year. We've seen these lads last year, good enough to run Monaghan out of town, regardless of which rumours you listen to of disarray in their setup. We also gave Mayo a massive scare and I'm convinced after watching it back, that we could have (maybe should have) actually beaten them.
In league, a draw is a type of victory for some teams as it's not a loss, although serious teams will see it as a dropped point. In Championship, nothing but a win counts, regardless of the back door options because eventually it becomes knock out too. You gotta be in it to win it.
