Heard one of the St Ronans Hogan lads called up to Antrim squad. Would have thought TK would have been among the CE contingent

No because that's not what our organisation does and it would mean the end of playing for the crest. Those same players though can have successful careers as Nurses, teachers, pundits etc. There's an outlet for everyone's talent and if that be far afield so be it. Would you want them to be prohibited from travelling to earn good money just because they happen to be good for our county prospects?
I think if everyone is honest they’d be thinking isn’t that great for the lad and then equally thinking “feck sake, another good player gone from the Armagh Squad”. My honest view would be that the GAA needs to do something to protect our games against this poaching. Even if a player must sign a contract with the GAA and then if poached by them Australians must pay a percentage of the fee to the lads club - or something. I just feel the club will miss this player more than the county imo. The club trained him from he was a child. I’m sure everyone in silverbridge will be delighted for him but wouldn’t it be even better if they got a kick back on it - to ease the pain as it were.

Ah yeah, I see where you're coming from and would have sympathy with your view, but don't necessarily agree with the "poaching" bit. Yes I do understand why you say it and I've said it before, so I'm contradicting myself, but if they made a career in Rugby, Soccer, Golf or Snooker even, would that still be poaching? I enjoyed my time as a player with the club, but found my success in motorsport when I was invited into a team. I got my career in media as a result of my contacts there. I was offered a place playing soccer, locally I add so the money wasn't going to be life changing, and that was when I was playing for my club. I never considered it being poached.

I guess I look at these things in terms of a business. A young gender neutral person/homo sapien (for the purpose of this reply) joins an organisation and does really well to the point that he is head hunted by another "bigger" organisation for better wages and they take the position. This in turn is repeated some time later and they move on to a great career position with eye watering wages and prospects. Neither of the two previous employers get compensated, even though they learned their trade there and got great experience and education. No breach of contract or conflict of interest. Just someone doing something they enjoy and get rewarded for. This stupidity of soccer players getting millions just to move to another club and the club left behind getting a fee happens in no other civil industry or certainly not to that extent.

The bit about compensating clubs would breach the rules and ethics of amateurism. Why wouldn't the player be offered a "transfer fee"? You then border on making the game or at least players, professional or semi-professional at least. Clubs don't necessarily spend tens of thousands or thousands of pounds/euros even on developing the players although that's not to suggest that thee is not a cost to the club, but one that is incurred with all the lads in a team preparing for and playing games.

I suppose it irks me that soccer clubs gain from the talent a young lad has because he is or was with them growing up, unless of course the parents got a big trust fund payment so he (or she it must be said) would sign on with them in the first place. If the player didn't have talent, then there would be nothing for the club to "sell"! I guess my thing is, you would then begin to see clubs trying to attract the best, no matter where they come from so they have an asset to "ease the pain" if they choose to leave and that goes back to my point of heading the rocky road to professionalism and only the strongest or wealthiest will survive. Yet another way to destroy what our organisation is already trying to do by tinkering with rules and formats.

It would also be nice at this point to see our fixtures for the McKenna Cup & National League. At this rate the 29th of December will be upon us & we still won't know who we're playing or where
I think McKenna cup games only known after its launch which is early December

I see coach Kavanagh posted a picture of the squad today as they were doing a session in SBG. No sign of Clarke.
