That week was basically consumed with getting tickets thankfully the club at hone cane through , I was living up on Dublin and all the lads in the house went out and I stayed in and watched up for the match . Although I had a ticket I spent the whole morning chasing a little bollix who had a ticket for my brother but he let me down after telling me he had it , I haven’t spoken to the wee Jackeen dog since ,I met my a Dad and uncles in Madigans and drank away to much and to be honest was well on by the time the match started so much so I was in the toilet when we missed the penalty a mistake I never made again .

I remember sitting in the chair at a half time seriously depressed I had a massive bet on us + 3 in the handicap and not only were we losing the match I was going to be skint for the next few months . Thankfully I sobered up a bit and we came into the match . I always remember seeing Diarmuird Marsden making the run from the full forward line to win the ball in around midfield which led to the build up of our goal , the joy after the goal and the tension of them last five minutes , there was a fella beside me and he just had his head on his knees for the last five minutes , when the final whistle went he just started hugging me and crying , I seen a few others that I knew god knows what I said and I watched the presentation from the stand the sea of orange was amazing .

We met up in Madigans again and one of my uncles had got lost bananas he was and he didn’t have a mobile , anyway my ones went to the train station and he was on the train they headed back home and I went in to Quinn’s to met my then Girlfriend (now mrs Orange) .Looking back I probably should have went home Quinn’s was good crack I got in with a few Derry lads and a few of the lads I lived with came in but it probably was better at home . I remember watching the Sunday Game on the big screen just standing there on my own with a massive smile on my face I must have looked even stupider than normal . I also lost my wallet on the way home in a taxi thankfully I must of told the taxi driver everything about myself because he arrived in my work the next couple of days with it .

Waking up the next morning what a feeling ......

@William Of Orange I remember seeing Marsden make that run. Could spot it high in the stand.

Last ten minutes were nerve wrecking. I didn’t realise the final whistle was as near as it was, and it took me a second to realise we’d finally done it. What a feeling. I remember everyone hugging all around. Our neighbour was next to us and her shouting at me “we did it we did it” before hugging it out.

While gathered outside the Hogan we could hear the ‘Gerry! Gerry!’ chants. What’s going on here I thought? Loads of Armagh folk gathered around Gerry Adams, bouncing around him.

Driving home, traffic jams around the new motorway junctions. I recall heading home deflated many a day, but that day was different. Honking of horns, people hanging out windows cheering and flag waving. Knowing we were All Ireland champions. Great feeling.

Memories? Many.
I am just after watching the whole match again there - tears in my eyes.
Only I was there I would not have believed it.
Nothing in sport will ever maych it!

2 memories of the day not connected to the match itself.
The trains were off so we had to bus it to Newry. As we drove through the middle of Portadown I had a wee chuckle to myself- not a single piece of bunting, flag or banner to denote there was anything different about that day.
As my brother and I left the ground, we decided to head out by the Hogan Stand after we finally left the pitch. On our way out we bumped into the great Jack O Shea who was very affable and we had a nice chat with him as we walked up Jones Road.
Memories that will live forever
