It's only the pre season Ulster league that they've stopped. However, it won't be long before the leagues are either shifted to aug/sep/Oct or cancelled imo

Eh? What? Football is back?! I just woke from my nap. How long was I asleep?
You think you've got issues. It's been that long I'm not even sure what a "murnin" is. I do remember that scoring 3 to their 4 means we're getting bate though ............... or is that tennis???

Delighted to see that the league will be finished. Playing Division 1 football is a must. We have a really talented team and for them to be able to compete against the best players in Ireland every week will be the type of experience they'll need to step up to the next level. There's no doubt that these are two tough games to finish with, especially after such a long break. We were in good form before lock down and I severely doubt that we will just be able to pick that form up again straight away. We just need to win one of these games, no matter the style, the performance or the score. Just win and get to Division 1.

I see croke Park crumbled under social media pressure re County teams training at this time.
Then you have a reporter from the Irish news going delirious over the decision welcoming the decision and then the CPA jumping onto the coat tails

They want clubs to tout on their own county if the county man isn't at training and is elsewhere.

In as much as the club is the cornerstone of the GAA the association will not survive without a thriving County scene. The County scene creates money that is put back into the GAA via grants, officials, coaches, player injury scheme yearly top ups, and many other avenues.
The club scene is huge but doesn't generate income the same way
Whether we like it or not it takes money to make our game what it is.
County players are elite athletes who are looked after by various coaches of different expertise.
For County players to play at the level that we the public want requires a fitness level above that of a club player in terms of s&c, diet, rehab and so on.
I'd be very interested to see what injuries are occurring to county players whilst training with their clubs, especially at present where clubs may be doing heavy training.

There also seems to be a media campaign about counties finishing their championships in September
They seem to think this means less meaningful games
In our own county we have league and championship - a lot of counties ae only playing championship.

We need to look at what sort of gaa we want. Just club? That will create elite clubs in each county who will want yo play other elite clubs more often as the competition in their own county isn't there and then those clubs will want more money to pay for travel, food, facilities etv

There is also the scenario where county players want to concentrate on the county game and not play/or train for their club. At county there's 30+players pushing on - 12 club players turn up midweek for a session.

I have no issue if county teams keep training at this time as long as the players are available for club games. And certainly in our county where we have two huge games in October that can put us back in division one.

Ultimately this is not the players issue
Time to split county and club seasons.

Funny enough @JoeH there's a couple of good points in there that I've pondered too. County games have been around almost as long as the association with initially clubs representing the counties and then it evolving to what we have today. Just earlier, I was chatting with herself (sorry but lockdown has meant I've found out we actually speak the same language even though she's Spanish) and I had mentioned that "inevitably" county players will have continued their training during the closure of facilities. As elite athletes it would be expected. Jeez the recommendation from health professionals was that even normal plebs like us should exercise, intensely when possible. Why then should it be a shocker that county and indeed club players should have continued training? - I really love F1 and seriously doubt if Lewis Hamilton or any other of the drivers started training least week or even at the start of June for resumption today. Makes no sense at all. Did the premiership groundball players stop training. It's a load of bollox to even talk about any player of any level or even gender in derogatory terms if they chose to continue training! Even "IF" it was collective, observing safe distancing practices!!

These self same journalists, full of their own importance, will be first to line up and condemn the lack of effort on the field, because said players "look lethargic and unfit. Surely they should have been training!!!" Ar*****es. Of course there will be keyboard warriors on these forums who will be the same, but as we say so many times, it's an opinion and I just tend to believe it.

As for finishing games in September, jeez there's no pleasing the two faced sh**es. Normally it's "Ah lads, surely the season could be wrapped up quicker to allow players a proper break!" They can't have it both ways even though they think we are stupid enough not to notice.

I do think though, that this situation during the current health crisis has proven one thing, it is going to be possible to have a club season and "then" a county season. All it takes is a little thought and a bit of planning - or of course a major pandemic!!

I presume they’re thinking ahead and, concerned that a possible second wave of Coronavirus may limit the actual number of games played, have decided to get the championship completed.

They can then start the league, which I think is no promotion/no relegation in Antrim and just play games until either the league is complete or has to shut down due to a second wave.

Best case scenario they get both league and championship played out, however they have ensured that a second wave, should it come will have minimal affect particularly on next year.
