We won the minor all Ireland. It’s amazing how few made the break through

Aye lads, but is that not just normal? I mean every year there's a minor All Ireland winner (obviously - D'Oh!!) but very few of those lads from whatever county seem to make it (or maybe don't want to make it) at senior level. Can't ever remember hearing of any full minor team that makes it together at senior.

I know what you mean. I think tho, with a smaller county like ourselves we should be trying to maximise every resource we have. Obviously there will be lads who never make the breakthrough for outside reasons, Tasker for example.

To be honest we have had a reasonable return from a minor team. Morgan, Grugan Murnin and Rowland are current panellists. McVerry,McKenna and McParland former panellists. The likes of Pete Carragher would have made it had he not had so many injuries. Less said about Tasker the better. That’s a pretty good return in terms of moving up. The disappointment I would have would be that the integration between the u21 winning team and the minor team never really happened.

From 1992 minors you had McGrane, Marsden, McCann, Justin McNulty and Barry O’Hagan that became established. Was that any more than 2009 minors?

It is a good return when you put it that way. I suppose lads at 18 all develop differently and some drift away for various reasons. Maybe some just can’t hack the dedication needed for senior football

The quality from that team outstrips the 2009 team. McGrane became one of the top MFs in the country. Marsden on of the finest forwards at the time. Don’t think McCann played on the minors. May have been a sub but definitely didn’t play. McNulty didn’t play either. Was definitely a sub. His twin brother Paul did though. Bumpy was the most talented who didn’t really fulfill his potential with the seniors and the like of Barry Hughes from Ballyhegan and Kevin O Hagan had the talent to be top players but never pushed on for various reasons. The late Emily’s Bratton too would have been a fine defender and could have pushed on had it not been for his professional career I’d say.

@bcb1 - I thought there was 2 McNultys in that squad.

McCann was sub.

Kevin O’Hagan was one player I thought was talked about as a potential senior, but never happened.
