Fifteen years ago today, this magnificent team won the All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship after a titanic struggle against Mayo at a rain drenched Breffni Park. Along the way they overcame a dogged Antrim challenge before putting Tyrone to the sword after extra-time. In the Ulster Final, a technical issue with the team bus did not stop a sensational opening half which ended the Oak Leaf challenge. Another fantastic display saw 1-20 registered in Pearse Stadium as a fancied Cork had no answers in the semi-final. Not even an Andy Moran led Mayo comeback could stop the men in orange securing two late points with several walking wounded on the pitch to ensure a first success at this grade for Ard Mhacha.

10 minutes injury time and my dicky ticker took a hell of a bashing.

I remember we were 3/4 up with time almost up and Mayo came back, but we got a couple of late scores to win it.

I remember the first half against Derry as being one of the most complete performances I have seen from any Armagh team. The majority of that Derry team was also on the Senior panel and they just did not know what hit them.
I remember Ciaran McKeever giving a colourful speech when accepting the trophy at Casement. I had not doubt they would win the All Ireland and I remember thinking how good things were in the county and we should be at the top table for many years.
A probably insignificant and mean spirited event to remember but one that was still very satisfying was the very visible annoyance of Sean Cavanagh when we won against Tyrone. Think he picked up a yellow card for being bit of a frustrated bollox during the game

I remember having a similar thought myself.

We edged Tyrone, and if memory serves me well that Tyrone team were All Ireland Minor Champions in 2001 and had just edged out Armagh by a point in that Ultser campaign before going on to All Ireland glory.
