I would go with

Hughes
Morgan McKay Hughes
Kennedy donaghy forker
Jarly og Grimley
Campbell Oisin grugan
Murin Rian clarke

We can't play 6 out and out forwards because were gonna have to have at least one extra defender to drop back . Shields is prob the one. Also comfortable moving forward when required.

Hughes
Morgan mckay burns
hughes donaghy forker
JOB Grimley
Hall Grugan Oisin
Clarke Rian Shields

Iv put shields in there to drop back as cover for donaghy, and too pick up runners coming through which we struggle with. In possession he can break forward at pace, or let hughes get forward and cover for him.

Unfortunately someone had to drop and that is murin given all his injury worries of late. That could change very quickly as he is a class act on song. Any two from hall, grugan, campbell and nugent depending on current form.

Squad is probably a bit top heavy so hopefully we can get experience into finding a few defenders and battle harden them in the league as cover is light in this area in my opinion.

Strong bench;
Bug
murin
Campbell
Nugent
Kennedy
turbitt
mc cabe
mc elroy
duffy
rafferty

That's a good team. I too think that Murnin shouldn't be starting at the moment. With the chronic injuries he has had with his hamstring, it's best to ease him back in. We certainly need defensive cover, so dropping Shields back, who can they carry the ball forward could work. We have a strong front five with many of them interchangeable. Hall deserves a place in the team, with the amount of work he gets through. Burns won't be back for a while, so I imagine Kennedy would start there.

Burns would be a big miss at the back. Had never had a run of fitness since his stellar breakthrough season.

I’d imagine we are looking at O’Neill, forker, shields, McCabe, McElroy, mcconville, Kennedy, burns, McKay, Hughes, Morgan, Donaghy and Mackin at the back. Lots and lots of ball playing half backs there. Specialist man markers of inside forwards is a different matter. You need lots of options to cover the various types of inside forwards. Not blessed with either pacy or aerial strength in that line.

For all your player talent you need to have a plan and an ability to adapt to the threat that presents itself. Not the time of year to assess a team but would welcome some more positive signs.

I disagree with the earlier comment about specialist full backs and corner backs. Those days are gone

There is no point saying? Thought this was a discussion board? Broker an agreement with the sun? That's a good comparison. It may well not be possible, but I don't see it being a red herring that they can't bring up with the AFL. The GAA could argue that we coach and develop these players to a point that make them valuable commodities which AFL clubs can make a serious amount of money from, so is it fair that we do a lot of the heavy lifting and you then come and reap the benefits? The AFL could say, no it's not fair, what can we do? They most likely would say, it's not fair, but that's just the way it is. But to be arguing that they shouldn't even bother or what's the point definitely helps. This will just go on and on, both making the same arguments.

I’ll try to help you. Important questions
1) if you ask AFL to back off and they politely refuse what is your next step?
2) what is the incentive for AFL to do anything other than politely refuse?
3) what is the line of argument that you think should be posed to AFL that is likely to get them to back off?

Oh Jesus, this again? I'll try to help you.
1). There probably isn't one.
2). There probably isn't one.
3). There probably isn't one.

As I've stated all along, there is nothing the GAA can do. Absolutely nothing, other than ask and appeal to the good spirit of the relationship they say they have with the AFL.

The GAA could say "We do all the hard work, set these players up on a plate for you to come and chose which ones you like. Would you like to contribute something to the counties and clubs that have done all that work?"

The AFL could say "Yeah that's a fair point. Let's talk about some form of compensation in the spirit of goodwill, which is really a drop in the ocean for our clubs." Or they could say "Sorry, that's they way it is, these guys aren't tied to you in anyway, it's a free market, we'll take what we like."

The suggestion that nothing should even be attempted to be done to find some sort of fair solution seems to be the counter argument.

Right are we all set for Saturday?

A win is needed to get going in a tough league and our limited home games makes it tough.

Wonder if anyone who missed McKenna cup available?
