So I was thinking (as I sometimes do :)), they normally bring out a previous All Ireland winning team during half time at the All Ireland final, I'm not sure if it's a specific number of years, 10, 20, 30 etc. but I was wondering if it might be our 2002 team this year given it's our 20th Anniversary? Jeez it would have been nice to mark the 20 years with an appearance in the All Ireland Final & yes a win would have been the icing on the cake (no I still haven't fully come to terms with the Galway loss, sure it's only been a few weeks!!!)

It’s 25 years. So we’ll have our day in 2027 (and 2048) ;)

I believe this year the jubilee teams are Dublin 1995, Meath 1996 and Kerry 1997. It would only have been Kerry but the Dublin and Meath teams didn’t get recognised due to the pandemic.

Mind you, they paraded the Wexford 96 and Clare 95/97 teams to a practically empty stadium last week. Great players from that era waving to some fella up in the gods picking his nose, an aul doll reading the paper and some boy trying to clobber a seagull with his program because it stole his sandwich.

On another note, the last few years has seen the jubilee captain bring out Sam before the match. Don’t know how they’re going to decide it this year. Maybe they’ll scrap each other for it. My money is on the Meath man, obviously.

Have just seen on Twitter that it's the Meath 1996 team, didn't realise that Dublin & Kerry teams would also be lining out.

Was just reading the final can go to extra time. I thought the final was the one match when after 70 mins it goes to replay.

Judging by this we're not miles away.
And that is the problem. Galway were streets ahead of us and we got 2 lucky goals from Hail Mary balls. Kerry were streets ahead of Galway today but the gap was not shown on the score board. I think they were playing with the weight of having not won the AI for 8 years in their shoulders.

Will Rafferty get chosen as goalkeeper on TSG team of the year?
And what about Rian??

I go with:

Rafferty
McCaigue
Kelly (or Rogers?)
O'Sullivan
McCarthy
Morley
White
McDaid
Fenton
P Clifford
S O'Shea
Kilkenny
Rian
D Clifford
Walsh

6 from Kerry
3 from Galway
3 from Dublin
2 from Armagh
1 from Derry

Would that representation reflect the standing of the teams at present?

I'm not sold on either of those points.

We were 2 points down with 62 mins on the clock when we had a man dismissed, which subsequently allowed Galway to open a bit of daylight in that game. All the stats on that game were pretty level - possessions, attacks, shots. Galway had marginally better shooting efficiency. But in no world were they 'streets' ahead of Armagh that day.

Kerry were better than Galway today, but not by much. Four points was a fair reflection. Were Galway to develop a couple of bench options in the next 12 months then that gap will close. I don't really buy this line that Kerry have been far superior to everyone else in recent years, but have failed due to miscellaneous mental issues. It's true that they have some unbelievable forwards, but for me they are very ordinary in some other key areas, which drags the unit back toward the pack.

I feel we'll be competitive with anyone next year - including Kerry.

Sean O’Shea was anonymous today. And was very quiet in the semi too. I wouldn’t have him there.

Fenton was very quiet in the semi too.

Could O'Neill be shifted to midfield to fit him in?

Competition a lot more stiff in the forward line. McDaid will get a midfield spot, but no standout for the second spot.

Kerry are average around the middle. Conroy was poor today. Glass poor in his semi-final. Maybe Fenton gets in, almost by default?
