Anyone Else?

Just a thought as I've often wondered if it is just me!!

I've been out and about as usual with work etc. over the last few weeks and occasionally I come across a game being played, not necessarily in Armagh. For example recently passed a game in Monaghan and stopped to watch and as I went to pay was invited in for free because I just stopped on the way past. Really entertaining game against [I think] Monaghan Harps although not really sure. Then last week was over around Castlewellan and stopped at what I think was a minor game. There was no-one on the gate and very few at it. Stayed for a while and went on. Then on Tuesday (or Wednesday - too old to remember these accurately now) I was passing Ballycrummy on the way back from Enniskillen via Caledon and Armagh and there was a game on and again I had some time to kill, so pulled in and it turned out to be a school's game between St. Paul's Bessbrook and Holy Trinity Cookstown. Almost half time so I hung around for a bit and met a few people I knew who said the first half was awful and Bessbrook were getting hammered. Second half was entertaining and I left with about a couple of minutes to go.

So as I say, is it just me or does anyone else enjoy just stopping at random games if the have time, when they come across one??

You’ve too much time your hands boyo! :D

Aye, I’ve seen meself pull into the odd schools match, and when I used to be out on the bike in the past, I seen me catching a bit of some match or other around the country.

I usually find myself stopping more if on holiday in Galway or Donegal or somewhere. Maybe if the pitch was near the road or whatever, catch a few minutes before Mrs M starts moaning, “can we go now?”

Football along the Atlantic coast always seems more magical or something. Maybe it’s the views or the smell of the sea or the fact there’s actually a club out here in the middle of nowhere, and you wonder how they do it.

I'm starting to believe that Pat. I just sometimes feel it's like an addiction or an itch that just has to be scratched. Find it really difficult to drive by a game unless I'm already on my way to another one and even then............ Yeah totally agree re games in other beautiful areas. There really is something special about them.

Now feet up on the dash time and ate this fish supper with a lump of plain loaf and butter dripping. This auld sacrifice and fasting game is tough ya know!!

Yeah I think it’s the likelihood of someone scoring a screamer while you’re watching, and sometimes you can’t bear to leave until you see something special.

I always find myself scouting out the local GAA pitch when on holidays too. In Donegal in particular, I’ve seen a great number of them.

Been to Kerry a few times too, and spotted a number there. I remember looking at Cahirciveen’s pitch thinking, so that’s where Maurice Fitz practised his shooting!

I think i have this “most picturesque GAA pitch in Ireland” challenge with myself. I know, it’s mad. Or maybe I’m mad. Who knows?!
