Armagh GAA is pleased to announce the county footballers will wear bibs with a special “Take 5” message in their pre-match warm-up on Saturday 14 March against Roscommon in the Athletic Grounds, Armagh.

The “Take 5” message is five simple steps to help maintain and support your mental wellbeing. By thinking of them as your ‘five a day’ and try to build these into your daily life.

Supporting the initiative Armagh player Stefan Campbell said,

“As a team we recognise the importance of promoting positive mental wellbeing and we are delighted to support this important initiative organised by our volunteers. As players, we know it is important to look after our physical health, but it is just as important to look after our mental health.

“Mental illness can affect anyone, including family, friends, colleagues or teammates. The great thing about being involved in Gaelic sport, it is an excellent way to look after our mental wellbeing. Whether that be, playing or volunteering at your local club the GAA is a brilliant way to be active, connect, take notice, give and keep learning.

“We encourage all our supporters, fans and friends to look after your mental health and take the five steps to wellbeing.”

Sean McAlinden, Armagh County Secretary said,

“We are delighted to bring this very special and important initiative to the Athletic Grounds. We know our patrons will support the campaign and hope that through it at least one person will acknowledge and seek support for their mental wellbeing.

“Thanks to our players and management team for the unwavering support of this campaign – they are true ambassadors for our sport and our young people. A massive thanks to our visiting team Roscommon for giving their support aswell.”

Chairman of Armagh’s Health and Wellbeing Committee Seamus McDonagh, commented,

“The Health and Wellbeing Committee have recently distributed signage for every club in Armagh to display at their grounds to highlight contact information and agencies who can provide support for anyone who needs it.

“We are thrilled to work together with our county footballers to raise awareness on minding our mental wellbeing and as supporters arrive to the Athletic Grounds on Saturday night (14 March) members of our committee will greet all supporters and hand out free information to everyone. We look forward to seeing you there.”

The campaign was organised by Armagh GAA and supported by Ulster GAA, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and the Public Health Agency.
