Lets be honest, the all stars are a bit of a farce. Clubs nominate 3 players for the team - how can these be selected across 3 leagues and championships?? It would be hard enough to pick all stars for each grade. Who in the county has been to enough matches to genuinely select players in this format? Football clubs can nominate a hurling ref of the year as well lol, its nonsense

A lot of what you say carries weight but paradoxically I am actually in favour of these awards and think they are for the greater good.

Why? Well, for a start, it has people talking about our football and the games we have seen over the Summer, so discussion and interest is generated and secondly the scheme is a celebration of our Championships - the flagship events of our year - and I'd be very much in the "there is no such thing as bad publicity" camp in this instance. Youngsters will see the players' photos in their all star gear and that adds an element of glamour and can hopefully act as an inspiration for them, particularly where the youngsters are at Clubs in the Intermediate and Junior. There is wider recognition.

Totally agree Rufus, while I think that the method of selection is completely wrong, the awards themselves could be a fantastic showpiece and something for deserving players and officials to show for a great year. The problem I have at the minute is that you look at the selections and say "who picked these??!!" in terms of positions etc being wrong.

Ah right. I thought maybe they couldn’t get a shoehorn big enough to squeeze him in there, unlike the big All Stars.

I can just imagine it. Colm in the Moy, being loaded onto the end of a big shoehorn, spring back and... BOIINNNNGGGGG... over the Blackwater and into the Armagh All Stars team.

I really must cut out this drinking in the afternoon.

Oisin O'Neill was in the States for most of the summer and I believe he missed a few club championship matches as well

However they may need to look at a senior intermediate and junior teams of the year. I'm sure an port Mor would think some of their players should be included - they're the only championship finalists not represented.
