The senior final between Keady and Middletown

Junior Final between Keady and Sean Traceys

BTW how the hell did Leon Reynolds get the ref job. Hurling at its best when its let go and both teams go at it (as demonstrated by southern counterparts) im afraid that neither team will be allowed to with him as ref which is annoying as it has the making of a good game. Sadly its going to be a poor senior final it will just be a game of frees.

The Junior Final will hopefully be a good game Keady could cause a shock in the senior and I think they will beat Sean Traceys although its a difficult game to call. Good luck to all the teams involved

Was at second semi final. Referee let a lot go in a good and physical match. Some quality scores too. The players for the most part made his job easy though.

As a member of the uninitiated, Cuchulainns seemed to get a right going over in the semi-final. Are they simply at a low ebb at the moment, as a Senior Championship was annexed as recently as 2013? I assume the competition from the football must be a big factor?

They play in the Antrim League now I think they really fancied their chances but Middletown were far too strong looked like a bit more S+C needed. Keady v Middletown should be a great game but I fear a fussy ref. Keady got a much tough test against derrynoose which are up an coming. Should be good for us neutrals if its not spoiled

Sure there has always been questionable appointments made at all levels when it comes to football/hurling championship time.
Secret handshakes club...

Refereeing in Armagh seems to be of a very poor standard generally (I assume hurling is the same).
Recently between underage and senior football games I have been at referees officiate in no/very poor attire. Surely looking the part goes along way to being taken seriously when making calls in games. Lads of all ages are impressionable and if it looks like the referee has put a bit of effort in before the game then they might respect them a bit more.
Also I would say that referees don't seem to know how to let a game go.
Generally they should just spot the sure things as they see them and call them. Too many try and be smart assed making calls they really cant be sure of and this leads them to think it makes them look good.
Above all punish dirty play straight away. Again this depends on the teams and the venue...

Sounds like someone is itching to be asked to become a referee......

As far as I know Cuchulainns are trying to build from the bottom up. They joined Antrim league to get more games and develop young hurlers. Didn't see their match v Middletown but have been told they had one of those days. No doubt the pull of the local football teams has an effect on their pick.
