Armagh hurlers claimed a comfortable win over Longford on Saturday to secure a semi-final spot against Tyrone in the Nicky Rackard Cup on Saturday 20 May.

Armagh were always in control in a game played in sunny conditions on the fantastic surface at Crossmaglen. Fiachra Bradley hit the opening score and soon claimed the first of Armagh’s four goals. Points from David Carvill, Conor Corvan, Nathan Curry and Cahal Carvill had Armagh cruising and a second green flag for Armagh, this time from captain, David Carvill had the victory all but assured at 2-8 to 0-3 approaching the half hour mark. Further scores from Dylan McKenna and Conor Corvan saw the home side head in at the interval 2-12 to 0-3 ahead.

Longford hit the first couple of scores in the second half, but a Ryan Gaffney goal kept the Orchard well in front. Longford to their credit kept plugging away and hit a couple of lovely scores. A couple of points from David Carvill and a good effort from Caolán Rice, who had just entered the fray, was followed up by a fourth green flag from Conor Corvan to put Armagh 4-15 to 0-8. Danny Magee got in on the scoring and Conor Corvan added another four to his tally and a beautiful piece of skill from Longford’s midfielder to fire over a sideline cut saw the game finish in a big win for Armagh 4-20 to 0-12.

Ard Mhacha will now look forward to the semi-final against Tír Eoghain in two weeks time, but they will know that they have plenty of areas to improve upon before that. In the other semi-final Doire will play Muineachán, who had an impressive win over Dún na nGall. Comhghairdeas leis na h-iománaithe ar bhua mhaith agus ádh mór agus iad ag ullmhú don chluiche leathcheannais.
