Longford 0-09 Armagh 0-09

Armagh hurlers earned a point on the road on Sunday as they played out a draw in atrocious conditions in Longford. The hurling was far from pretty as both sides struggled in the ferocious gale and the frequent downpours, but it was the hosts who took advantage of the wind in the first half. A Johnny Casey point and a couple of David Buckley frees had Longford ahead 0-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes.

Oisín Keenan added to Dean Gaffney’s earlier free before Buckley got his third and two further scores from Danny Magee and Kieran McKernan had the sides 0-4 apiece after 32 minutes. Paul Barden and Buckley were on target nearing half time but a good score from Ryan Gaffney reduced the half time gap to a single point.

Longford were quick off the mark in the second half, but it took Armagh ten minutes to register a score through a huge free from captain, Nathan Curry.
Another Buckley free kept Longford’s two point advantage, but it was the visitors who looked to be finishing stronger from then.
Dean Gaffney and Nathan Curry efforts from the dead ball drew the sides level with seven minutes to go and with the game heading into the three minutes of injury time, a Dean Gaffney free put the Orchard side ahead for the first time.
But Longford would not be denied and a Daniel Connell point from play ensured a share of the spoils on a cold, wet, windy and miserable day in the midlands.
