Just wanna correct you Blaine is a natural keeper. Played nets for St Paul’s high school throughout his time there, has won an All Ireland medal with them, has also played nets for Armagh underage development squads, minors, u21 now seniors. Has also done nets for Warrenpoint soccer club whenever they where in the Irish league.

Fair enough , I didnt know that .

Similar to Ragingbull but Cavan will be lumping it in, need a more solid full back although 2 of the goals were at the fault of O'Hanlon for calling the first one and Donaghy stayed down and for not calling the last one that slipped through Burns' hands.

Wont get a sniff of game time now as he had the audacity to go to Aussie Rules trials! I’m afraid under the dictatorship of Geezer this is what happens sadly to too many talented young players!
Can someone put the record straight on McQuillian? Did he trial for Aussie Rules? If he did, then he made himself unavailable for his county during that time and that was his priority. So, i take it he either didn't make it or decided against it?? So, if that is true, he needs to knuckle down and get himself in the squad. Should the manager roll out the red carpet for someone that wasn't in his thoughts as he'd committed elsewhere?

Prove to the manager now that he is committed to the county and if he's good enough and shows well in training he will get selected (is he actually training with the county). This is not his club where he could literally sit at home, not train and rock up and get game time. This is county. You're all-in or you're not. I've heard so much about this lad but no-one is able to say what his priority is. If it's Aussie Rules - good luck to the lad trying to make a career out there being a professional athlete. It's every young lads dream to get paid to play football. Wish i was that good back in the day - i would have tried it too!

Was burns really that good on Sunday? He was a free man after all in the second half, he was nowhere near as effective in the first.

You asked for someone to put the record straight and then made quite a few assumptions of your own and went off on one! Ross has been going to Aussie Rules trials in Ireland over the winter and did very well. Throughout this process he continued to train with Armagh. He did that well during his trials he was invited to Australia in April for 12 days to train with academy players out there (call it a final trial if you like). AFAIK he is waiting on word on whether he will be offered a contract with an Aussie Rules club. When he came back from Australia he went straight back to Armagh training and has remained committed to the setup.
Nobody's asking for a red carpet to be rolled out. I can assure you that's it's not just a matter of "rocking up" without training and getting game time in Cullyhanna (as would be the case in most clubs). I'm sure Ross is fully aware of the commitment needed for inter county football as he has been doing it throughout his playing career.
He has been treated disgracefully by the management. It's very small minded to drop him because he has gone to trials for Aussie rules. If the opportunity arose for Geezer during his playing days I'd say he (along with everyone else) would have jumped at it. If Ross isn't in the top 15 players in Armagh (let alone the 26 named for the Down match) I'd eat the shoes I'm wearing today.

I don't know the ins and outs of it but I know the lad well and I know his father very well. I have watched Ross from he was 12 odd years of age as my lad is the same age as him and they played basketball together (Ross is an exceptional basketball player also and a multi-black belt and Euro champion in Tae Kwan Do also). There is no player, and I would not qualify this at all in any way, who I have ever seen who is as committed as Ross McQuillan. That doesn't even take into account how talented he is. To be honest he should be starting on the Armagh team in either wing back positions in my opinion and he could be a Jack McCaffrey style attacking wing back who would be devastating. If he is being sidelined due to internal politics then something is seriously wrong and we are losing out on one of the finest talents within the county

Fully agree. First class player and is definitely talented enough to be in the starting 15 for Armagh. Would offer a lot more than Grugan, Hall, Kennedy and Forker. Could play in half forward and also half back with the pace he has going forward. Duffy another first class player from Cullyhanna.

Has O’Hanlon left the panel? Ryan Kearney from the Og’s was named at 16 then dropped for Oisin O’Neill so not actually sure who our sub keeper is at the minute. I wouldn’t be dropping Blaine anyways.

There is bound to be a better goalkeeper playing at senior level in the county.

Very disappointing if this is the case. Especially as I believe Geezer himself stated in the past that he would have loved to have been a professional sportsman. McQuillan is rightfully exploring his career and sporting options and it seems very mean spirited to drop the lad for this given the commitment the lad has shown. Very contrasting approach to how management regime has been happy to accommodate the travel whims of Jamie Clarke
