The Armagh Scór na nÓg semi-finals took place at the weekend with the young people of Armagh showcasing their talents in front of bumper crowds in St Cillian’s GFC, An Chrois Bhán and St Moininne’s GAC, Cill Shléibhe. Thanks to the two clubs, to Áine Bean Uí Choinn, bean an tí at Whitecross and Pádraig Ó Miaidh, fear an tí at Killeavy, to Kieran on sound and to the adjudicators.
Saturday’s programme saw the céilí and set dancing teams from Dromintee win through to the county final, while the two céilí teams from Killeavy on Sunday evening joined them in the county final. The standard in the solo singing section in both semi-finals was exceptionally high, with Silverbridge and Whitecross emerging on Saturday night and Killeavy and Crossmaglen winning through on Sunday night. In the ballad singing section, the final will be contested by two groups from Killeavy, the singers from Dromintee and the group from Carrickcruppen.
In a very competitive instrumental section, the groups from Silverbridge, Dromintee, Mullaghbane and Killeavy won through. Saturday night saw Whitecross and Cullyhanna progress in the recitation, while Killeavy and Tír na nÓg progressed on the Sunday evening. There will be three léiriú acts in the county final with Cullyhanna, Dromintee and Killeavy coming through the semi-final stage. While the official Scór na nÓg table quiz will take place at the Athletic Grounds on Monday 4 December, there will be a three person quiz as part of the Scór na nÓg final with Dromintee, Cúchulainn’s, Cullyhanna, Killeavy, Tír na nÓg and Sarsfields taking part.
The county final will take place on Sunday 26 November in Silverbridge, starting at 2pm. The county final is sure to be a great day’s entertainment and supporters of the clubs involved and Gaels from across Armagh are invited to come along and enjoy a true showcase of Irish culture and talent.
