Derrynoose beaten by 2 points. 1.12 to 13 points. Good close game. The just about better team winning.

I took a dander into Davitt Park yesterday. Not very often we get competitive games played in the Lurgan area anymore unless it's the local club games - debates the competitive term and moves on!! I'm not even sure if competitive Hurling outside of Sean Treacy's is played so it was enjoyable to spend a few hours on a lovely day close to home for a change. I know the Derrynoose lads may beg to differ.

My relatively limited experience of Hurling had me enjoying a very good game. Might not be one for the purist, but certainly entertaining. It was easy to see why the previous encounter was a draw and this one looked to be heading the same way for long spells. A really impressive never say die attitude from Derrynoose and I'd agree completely with Throwball, that it was possibly just on balance the right result, but only just. Some great scores in it and thoroughly enjoyed by myself and the small group of friends that watched it.

how did both teams play? and who played well?
Middletown have any chance against Lavey?
I stayed on to watch the second game and again I hold my hands up, Hurling is not a game I know a big pile about, but really enjoy watching. I honestly thought that the quality of Hurling in the first game was better and that both Lavey and Sarsfields did more "bullying" of each other and getting in the refs face throughout.

Sadly can't offer an opinion on how Middletown will fair against them as I haven't seen them play this year. What I will say is there's a very loudmouth supporter that follows them. Constantly throughout the game he shouted "Too Long" as soon as a Sarsfields man even got close to the ball, never mind touch it. Excuse the language but it was also "JC ref are you a blind B?" if the opposition dared to tackle. Cheating B's every time they got a free and so on. I'm basically advising any travelling supporters to watch out, because only for two stewards yesterday that intervened there was going to be someone getting a sore gub and deserving of it. So for heavens sake avoid a lad about 6ft and 20 stone. He was with six others and 4 kids all around 8 - 12 years old. He even shouted abuse at children wearing sarsfield's club colours to "go home and cry in their granny's apron" Very classy indeed. Thankfully the ladies with the Sarsfields lads beside us, kept their menfolk from reacting to him. Only one girl from Clan Na Gael told him to "shut your tiresome mouth. Your mother is so proud of you!" which got the loudest cheer of the day even from Lavey supporters.

Must say the pitch looked in great shape yesterday. Credit to thone involved. Also there seems to have been a bit of building work done since I was last there.

It did alright. Great facility now. Just a pity there isn't concrete down both sides for supporters, but I imagine that's mega money and will come in time. The new building has only recently been finished and is a credit I must say. Great wee enclosed area for kids training and I'm sure for the bigger lads/lasses. The lights are on regularly all year round on that one. A real credit to those that have fund raised and sought grants etc.

So the Middletown game is down for Corrigan Park 1:00 PM. From what I've heard Derrynoose and Middletown players did not like this pitch at all. and it has no stand for the supporters, poor from the Ulster council to put it there.
