Club Scene

Why does no one ever talk about the club scene anymore ? Old forum use to be full of chat about club games and lesser known players was always an interesting read hearing some peoples takes. Are the clubs leagues meaningless now ? Seems like most teams can take it or leave it they aren’t too worried about their form aslong as they stay in the division and motor along nicely in time for championship.

I’ve come to suspect that a lot of people on this forum don’t actually follow the club scene. Many aren’t even active club members (see annual hissy fits when tickets for county matches are distributed through clubs)..

Since the leagues have went to 8 teams they’ve been very competitive with virtually no dead rubbers. Some clubs are at different stages of development or have differing ambitions, it only takes a few points swing to go from relegation candidate to potential promotion. Like you say though, one or two teams might just be happy to consolidate their championship status. Sideline Eye regularly covers games as well as Armagh TV so it’s natural people go there for their club football fix.

For what it’s worth though my thoughts are as follows:

1A looks between Clann Éireann & Cross (same for SFC) with Granemore finally getting relegated, probably with Dromintee.
1B is probably the most competitive league this year, teams all taking points off each other, don’t think anything set in stone just yet - though Sarsfield’s will do well to avoid the drop.
2A is a 3 horse race between St Paul’s, Cruppen & Ógs, none are fit for senior football though. Not yet anyway.
2B is a foregone conclusion with relegation though at the top it’s Belleeks plus 5 others in contention. Clann Éireann II some impressive results far (be some craic if they went up)
3A Another 3 horse race, Ballyhegan will *probably* go up as winners. Nothing set in stone at the other end though Lissummon look in trouble.
3B Is Corringshego/Peter’s to lose. The rest are lads & dads standard.

All of the leagues are fairly competitive with a lot of surprise results. I think the current league setup is quite good and is working well at the minute

Was at the Sarsfields and St Peter’s game last week- amount of chances the Peter’s wasted was scary! 11 wides I think I counted and could’ve have a few goals.

It’ll be an interesting last few games for the promotion/relegation.

Missed the second half comeback for the Peters on Thursday v Maghery but that’s some turnaround after the first half!

Watched the Buckfast derby last night. A 2 point hammering comes to mind, a last minute penalty for St Peter’s gave for a more respectable scoreline. In reality Clans very much in control throughout. St Peter’s very wayward with their shooting and kept in touch mostly with frees. St Peter’s are hard to beat at home but looking at their run in it'll be a great escape if they stay in this division.

2b is very tight except for the bottom..would expect tir na nog to get promoted when conaty comes back for the last few games, depending how far armagh get.

I’m hearing a lot about the two games between ballyhegan and Collegeland in 3A? Has Anyone been following them? Names McCormack and Mackle popping up constantly

Having been an advocate supporting of the lower divisions for a number years in particular the 4 teams on the border of the Moy, I have to say the two games I watched involving two teams above play was money well spent. Old school clash plenty of scores (not the game in Collegeland anyway), hard hits, the occasional hand bag and value in terms of entertainment . That fella Finnegan for collegeland in the middle caught my attention, has an eye for a score as a midfielder is a strong asset and good runner of the ball.
