Forecast Competition 2021

As most games are finish on the day how about double points for that week ( or maybe 5 additional points) if you correctly say draw and then winner?
If you get all predictions wrong you lose say 2pts

Maybe late but how about Armagh club leagues? Rather than some random games where no one knows the clubs involved?

Well, last year the rule was when matches were ‘finish on the day’, the point was awarded to the team that won after ET or on penalties.

Good suggestions though. The lads are mulling them over as we speak.

Yeah, all divisions of the Armagh league have featured in the past, and will do again.

There was the odd fixture included last year featuring teams from all over Ireland, but mainly when fixtures were scarce.

The lads say that featuring different competitions will hopefully get players interested in different competitions they maybe normally wouldn’t take an interest in.

Fair enough. Looking forward to it!

Can anyone confirm that all provincial football matches are ‘winner on the day’?

What about back door/Tailteann Cup? Are they all ‘winner on the day’ too?

So, the lads are grateful for the suggestions. Here’s one thing that they’ve been thinking:

It would be a bit unfair to dock points for players who scored zero. Some games are on Sat, some Sun. Sometimes players forget to post for Sat, but are still in time for Sunday’s.

So, if someone predicted all matches and scored 0/5, then docked a point or two. And someone missed a Sat game, but predicted the 4 Sun games, and scored 0/4, then wouldn’t be docked points, as they didn’t predict all 5.

Plus there would have to be an absolute deadline where you’d have to submit all 5, and if you missed that, no prediction would be counted. So, as people are busy, and they missed a game or two on Sat, it’s only fair they can still predict for Sun as long as predictions are posted before matches start.

Hope that makes sense.

(It took me a while to understand. Those boys handwriting is a disaster, so it is. More to follow, once I decipher this scrawl...).

Mambo no. 5 Point no. 2:

The lads are thinking instead of docking points, that scoring 5 out of 5, might warrant a bonus point.

Again, like the point above, we don’t want to punish players too much if they forget about/are late with one prediction. Most do post all 5 in time, but people are busy, and some are missed. So instead of the likes of 5 bonus points (10 in total) for scoring 5/5, a bonus point may be sufficient. Plus it’s a good way for players to make up/accumulate extra points.

So... let me know what you all think, and I’ll tell the lads (they really ought to get online, but they’re old school. Big fans of pen and paper, so they are).

Like the idea of a bonus point myself. Extra points for predicting margin of victory? Although understand if that would create too much work.

The lads were up all night mulling this over (accompanied by a few cans, I’d imagine).

They reckon it might prove too complimacated, what with all this ‘winner on the day’ malarkey, penalties, etc. I mean, if a team won 4-2 on penalties, would that be a two point victory or a six?

It’s also difficult to know how much points would be sufficient for a correct margin of victory. More than just predicting the actual winner? How difficult it would be, I’m not sure. Some of us know how difficult it was last season guessing in the fastest scoring team competition - it wasn’t easy!

Maybe the simplicity of the competition is what makes it work best? (ie. just predicting the winner). This last couple of seasons, we’ve had a steady number of players who have stayed with it throughout the season, so maybe we’re doing something right. Maybe people just like to see the 5 matches and take 30 seconds over it and post without thinking about it too much. Maybe adding more points for a correct winning margin might cause an overload, and they end up firing their phone off the wall. And we wouldn’t want that!

Anyway... (what the hell am I talking about?)... oh yes... so maybe, if it’s ok with everyone, we’ll just slightly alter the game this year, and add the bonus point for getting all 5 correct.

I could have used lesser words to make that point, but I’m not going back up to edit it now. The lads could have said it in less words, but they’re not online yet.

PS. Well done if you read down this far!

Well, as everyone (well, @JoeH and @Armaghball at least) seems happy enough with the new format, we’ll aim to get going for this weekend.

The football and hurling provincial championships begin this weekend, so I’ll get the first five fixtures up in the next day or so.

Should be fun.....

Here hang on a minute, there's something I'm not happy about just yet and need some further clarification before launch!
