Armagh hurlers claimed another two league points on Sunday after a 2-14 to 0-12 victory over Lancashire.
Dylan McKenna opened the scoring for the home side, but Lancashire’s Eoghan Kelly was quick to respond, before scores from Matty Rafferty on his compitive debut and captain Stephen Renaghan pushed Armagh ahead. Darren Crowley pointed for the exiles before a great ball in from Barry Shortt was gathered by Eoin McGuinness who finished to the net on 11 minutes. Nathan Curry from a free and Danny Magee pointed to put Armagh 1-5 to 0-2 ahead, but Lancashire were certainly not for lying down, with the next four points, three from Ronan Crowley and one from Eoghan Kelly who quickly made up for a missed goal chance which just pulled wide. During the same period, Armagh suffered a couple of injuries to Stephen Renaghan and Matty Rafferty and with the mist making visibility very poor, Nathan Curry looked to have settled the home side again with a good score from play. Another two Lancashire points brought them to within one, but two long rangers from Curry give Armagh a three point cushion at the break.
Crowley and Curry traded scores from the dead ball early in the second half, but Lancashire were hit with a blow 15 minutes into the half when Greg Jacob earned a second yellow. Danny Magee converted the resultant free. Armagh increased the pressure on the Lancashire defence and a combination of a Danny Magee strike and Paddy McGrane flick had the umpire reaching for the green flag. Armagh won a penalty with 10 minutes to go and Curry opted to take the point to give the home side a 2-11 to 0-9 lead. Danny Magee, Dylan McKenna and Eoin McGuinness wrapped up Armagh’s scoring, with three converted frees from Ronan Crowley pulling back the deficit to eight.
