Have to agree with the fact that personal sledging should be left out of our game, but also i'd like to think that the players should have thick enough skin to overcome the sledging and get on with the game.

Big stevie Mc didn't run to the sideline yapping when ricey was whispering in his ear

How can sledging be left out of our game if teams don’t take a stand against it? Sunday’s game was a tight, physical game. Nobody plays the game to have a man in your ear the whole game. I didn’t hear what was said but it was clear from the reaction that it must have been something serious. That said, it seemed the referee walked off due to the pushing and shoving. I wonder after the St Paul’s game were referees told to err on the side of caution?

Why is he a joke.
The Clans players weren't pleased with what the Clans no14 was saying to the Shane's player, very personal and disgusting sledging about a female member of his family, utterly disgusting, his own club should chase him.
If this is true and the ref heard what was said i'd like to see an example made out of the player involved with a lengthly ban. There should be no room in our games for this kind of stuff. Its disgusting and can't be defended. Fellas are there to play the game not listen to this sort of thing.

Maybe I am old but when did this term "sledging" become all the rage? From reading back on the comments it seems the majority of neutrals were baffled by the decision the referee took on the day. It also has came full circle and we are looking someone crucified for a bit of slagging (not a sledging kinda guy) I have heard what was said by the player and I can tell you this is absolutely comical. When I was playing myself I think I would have actually gave my opponent some credit for being so witty. What has be forgotten is that a Shane's guy was already sent off and another one about to get the line. Now this wasn't because they were saints. This refs report will be more eagerly awaited than the election of a new pope.

If you know what was said and you have deemed it to be quite witty, why don't you repeat it here?

Couldn't indulge in hearsay of that level pal and it may sway the court case.;) I know one fact though, it's seems absolutely stupid to prioritise a bit of slagging over physical abuse.

What was said wasn't witty
But don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.
When Kilcoo resorted to racial abuse against Cross it wasn't treated as witty or funny,
There was uproar

Racial abuse is another level, and has no comparison at all. Therefore has no relevance to this incident. I have played football in South Armagh and encountered very little saints. There were things said but we didn't cry about it. It's a grown up game, banter is part of it. Get on with it lads and keep the dummies in the prams

So sexual comments about family members is ok in your book, wise up, that's not banter. And every bit as bad as racial abuse.
There's slagging and there's crossing the line.

Where did I say that was acceptable? But there is absolutely nobody saying that was the case only you (Neutrals included) You therefore must know a lot about the incident so perhaps you can enlighten us as to what was said??

If something along these lines has been said and is included in the refs report i wouldn't expect to see the player in action again this year. The punishment should deter people from being involved in similar incidents in the future. Its a pity because the player in question is a great footballer, sometimes the heat of the action can make us do strange things.

We were not going to take any action on this thread, but talk of "hearsay", "sexual comments", "racial abuse", foul language to each other and name calling is not acceptable. It stops now to allow those tasked with investigating to get on with what they do.

Several years of good natured banter will not be undone in a couple of days. We remain committed to being open to all, but that means a level of responsibility on everyone. Any further stupid tit for tat will be removed and sadly, members suspended, a line we hoped we'd never reach, but if the children can't share the toys........
