Intermediate Championship 2019

I think the divisional teams are a good idea.

I wonder which jersey they’d use, and what their home ground would be though?

To be honest I think the system is the best system that we could have. The one improvement I think would be to have divisional teams made up of the intermediate and junior teams to play in the senior championship. Maybe do what Rufus has suggested and reduce the senior teams to 10 and add in 6 divisional teams made up of junior and intermediate teams, 2 per area. I think it would improve the level of the senior championship and increase the level that the junior and intermediate players play at. I have watched senior players in the last number of seasons and to be brutally honest at 43 and busted I reckon I’m in as good a shape as some of them.

Would intermediate and junior championship have to be completed before senior starts?

Good question. Can’t imagine too many Sarsfield’s or Tones men wanting to line out with each other. Likewise any of the Lurgan clubs.

Sarsfields are senior, so they wouldn’t be included. If you were going to do a North Armagh team, it would be players from the likes of Eire Og, Ballyhegan, Clonmore, TNN, St Paul’s, Tones etc.

Sarsfield’s got relegated this year so they’ll be intermediate

That’s exactly the sort of idea I have been raising for years. An option would be to run off a Divisional qualifier....2 groups of 3 and each team play 4 games, home and away and the team on top of each group go into the senior championship. That’s how it happens in Cork. Cork hurling championship was won yesterday for the third year in a row by Imokilly which is primarily based round Youghal in east cork. They can’t go into the Munster club so the beaten finalist goes through. Still a great way for players from lower level clubs to play at a higher level

When the decision was made back in 2011 I believe context was to merge league and Championship to make it more consistent and equal. I believe this was the correct decision! However the mistake was when we merged 4 divisions into three Championship. What should have happened was that there should have been a junior b championship for division 4 teams.

Division 1 - Senior (11 teams)
Division 2 - Intermediate (12 teams)
Division 3 - Junior (12 teams)
Division 4 - Junior B (13 Teams)

In order to improve overall Armagh performance in Ulster club we have to regrade our grades so to speak!!

(I might be slightly incorrect here but for example this rule was applied Grange would have been competing in the Junior this year!) Indeed I’m sure some teams in the lower divisions would jump at the opportunity to win a Junior B championship.

Yes the overall standard in club football has went downward over the past few years. There is no doubt the standard in the late 90 early 00 was of a really high standard. Junior up! Even at senior level although cross where constantly winning the Mullagbawns, Ogs, Clans, Dromintee where serious teams.

Something has went very wrong! Maybe if the powers had a Club first approach as opposed to the fixation on development squads and elitism the general standard within the county would improve!

Just reading back through the comments on this section of the intermediate and for those of you that come from outside the Grange clearly haven’t a fuckin clue. Let me keep yous in the loop. Yous done nothing only run the Grange senior team down all year. Bad mouthing them at every opportunity even directing abuse at certain individuals at times. Giving out about the dirty tactics that the Grange used in the group game against clans yet the two straight reds were correctly overturned. Nobody give Grange a chance against Mullaghbawn, yet when we beat them apparently they’d opened the championship up for clans to go on and win. Funnily enough 7 days later the Grange knocked them out aswell. Then all of a sudden there was a bit of respect for the grange and what a great job they were doing. Then the Grange were criticised for their celebrations after the final. There’s a high percentage of people on this forum wouldn’t know what a championship was if it hit them in the face so they wouldn’t know how to celebrate one anyway. But if ye asked the Grange lads would they celebrate any differently I could guarantee they wouldn’t. As for the Ulster campaign... we were missing 4/5 lads that were injured from the final and one was in Japan at the RWC, take 4/5 lads out of any country club and it’ll be tough against any opposition. Also for people saying we didn’t represent the county well... the grange weren’t representing the county anyway, they were representing the grange and the people associated with the club, and nobody else so frankly we couldn’t give two fucks about what anyone from outside the club thinks. But we will be fit to keep atty hearty warm all winter which is a problem 15 other intermediate clubs could only dream of having. Ask anybody from the Grange, player or supporter and they’ll be very proud of what the Seniors achieved this year.

Let me tell ye a we story lads. I’m not on here to fall out with anybody. There’s no sad cunts in the grange bluenose sure we won the championship. If I’m not mistaken 1/2 of our senior lads got a few calls after Clans beat us in the group stages. Sure it’s only lads having a bit of craic I’m sure. And where they were drinking is totally irrelevant. Theres no rule saying you’ve to be from Lurgan to drink in Lurgan. I’d say Ger Reid was happy enough with his days takings

A very passionate post from Hose - and I can identify where he is coming from. Club is number one - it is where you grew up and it is what makes you. Save for a few swear worfs used - i like his passion

Always enjoyed a run to Davitt Park. Do a great Guinness in the social club. The phone calls sound very like a few men have had a few too many pints in them and got a we bit carried away. Make no mistake bluenose I’ve seen enough of clans to make me believe they’ll be in Div 1 next year.
