Junior Championship 2020

Well you'd say that the games in the Athletic Grounds would be live, like last weekend.

With draws all made who will emerge from the junior this year?

rd 1.
Forkhill v bye
St michaels v bye
Derrynoose v bye
O’Hanlons v cross 2nds
Corrinshego v Mullabrack
Killeavy 2nds v dorsey
Belleek v clady
Éire Óg v Lissummon

Quarter finals
St. Michaels v Corrinshego/Mullabrack
Killeavy 2nds/dorsey v belleek/clady
Derrynoose v O’Hanlons/cross 2nds
Forkhill v Éire Óg/Lissummon

some tasty games here. My game of round 1 would be belleek v clady, no love lost between these two after their league game in Granemore last year got abandoned due to a full scale brawl, be worth a watch.

The quarter finals were very favourable to the junior b league sides of 2019 in st Michael's and Mullabrack..corrinshego should have too much for them though and make it through to the semi final.

My prediction for the next quarter final pairing is dorsey v belleek, this will be a tough game for both. Dorsey have managed to reach the last 2 semi finals whereas belleek have been dumped out at the quarter final the last 2 years in a row by derrynoose so will have their sights set on a last 4 place as a minimum target this year.

things start to heat up next with two potential favourites clashing which should be derrynoose v cross 2nds. Derrynoose will be sore after beating favourites Forkhill in the semi final to lose out to underdogs collegeland in the final and cross is a strange one because you don’t know what you are going to get, there have been many rumours of different players dropping down to cross 2nds team but why didn’t they try that last year to avoid getting relegated? Regardless of that cross won’t be easy beat and the winner of this game will have a big say in the semi finals.

now for the game of the championship, Forkhill v Éire Óg potentially..Forkhill have paddy burns back this year which will make a big difference to shoring up their defence. Éire Óg haven’t been in the junior championship for a number of years so will be fancying themselves to bounce back up to intermediate.

I have been told that the semi finals are an open draw so if the winners of game 3 and 4 can avoid eachother in the semi finals we will be in for a cracker of a final.

all views are my own opinion so don’t be jumping down my throat.

I couldn’t call it for junior. Maybe derrynoose or Forkhill just from what I seen last year.
Good draw for a couple of 3B teams. Mullabrack will be stronger now that sweeper Ben rice has shed the pounds and has a clean bill of health???

Took in both junior championship games today. Éire Óg were poor, scored just 1 point in the second half, having just 3 shots the second half. Cross were also poor, they took a lead against O’Hanlons and then started to give away stupid frees all over the field, only for the second half water break ruining momentum O’Hanlons probably would have won. This junior championship is wide open, Éire Óg v Forkhill and Cross v Derrynoose next week will be the testing of the two sides that came down from intermediate last year. I predict two defeats for them.

Game of two halves, Eire og dominant first half and went down to 14 men early in the second half, up the hill in keady. Changed the game totally. Touch and go but got over the line. That's championship football. That's the lissummon team that absolutely hockeyed Belleeks last week
