Mckenna Cup

OK, I am going to go with the thesis that we played this formation and lineout because we didn't want to show our hand too soon. Maybe the fact that the games were televised this year meant that opposition would have the opportunity to analyse us before the league starts. The fact that an extra 20 players were added to the panel maybe feeds into this narrative. #superbluff

I was 2 wet and tired after getting home to post last night. There isn't a good road in Cavan!

Rafferty cost us a goal and a point and tye 2nd half we lost 3 more from kick out mistakes. Kicking short ball in torrential rain doesn't work!!!!

We had no midfield but still going in at halftime we were the better team. We changed the team and they didn't so that was the difference.

Challenge games are showing I'm sure more to management. Defenders are needed before the league begins.

When Hall is playing CHB in a game you know we are all over the place!!! Experiment was clear.

Yeah, that's what happens when you bring on 11 subs at half time and no defenders among them!! At least when Doyle and Rice came on they actually could defend. Speaking of which I thought Lee Rice looked useful over the two half games so along with Higgins and McCambridge maybe we did salvage something from the competition.

Only Sheridan McCabe mcKay stayed on wasn't it and went off last 10

Same people complaining about the subs at half time will be the first ones on complaining why we haven't unearthed any new players after the first league or championship defeat. Its the mckenna cup for god sake, in mid Jan. Nobody takes it serious unless you are mickey harte. Feel for those who went but thats the risk you take going to this comp, I for one am very happy to see so many players get a chance to stake a claim. Id rather they get a half than 5 mins at the end of the game. Management can pick whatever team and changes they see fit, outside of the squad bubble I doubt any noise registers with them and thats exactly how any tight knit set up should be!!

I would care if we were relegated. I think we have got a better team than Roscommon, Donegal and Monaghan. The problem we have is that we need to pick up the points early and not worry about Tyrone relegating us.
Agreed. On paper you’d only say Kerry are a cut above us out of the whole of division one. Well fit to beat the other 7 teams imo.

Holy lord, people losing their shit over a McKenna Cup game and thinking that as ‘supporters’ you’re entitled to this, that and the other. Most lads haven’t played any ball in months, they are in their pre-season, lots making returns/ debuts, management trying things out, I reckon the players and management won’t lose any sleep over it.

Building on last year is all that matters. Winning or losing a McKenna cup match is not a memory that will last long come the first round of the championship. Park it and move on to the league

Sack Mcgeeney.

Send O’Neill and Grugan to Tyrone.

Our players are useless but we aren’t allowed to try new ones.

Not allowed to give lads games to build sharpness either.

I seen someone say McGeeney does need t take the supporters into consideration as without us he wouldnt be in a job. I have seen some daft posts on this forum before but that is right up there.

Who is he doing it for then? Himself, the team, the county board? What's the point in any of it then?

The baxtards didnt show too much concern for us last year in Croker I’d no voice for a week and nearly took a heart attack after that one!!

A McKenna cup game is a glorified friendly ffs

Just get it done.

Put down that glass of port, put the cigar out and summon the butler to bring your finest parchment paper to make a start on this petition
Yes, dear...er, I mean, Sir.

Sorry, you just reminded me of Mrs M with that tone.

Don't like losing and I hate losing to Cavan. Miserable place and miserable people. Does it ever stop raining there?
Annoyed, but not worried. It is clear the number one thing on management/players mind is to be ready for start of league. There will be a lot of games this year based on the newly designed season set up. Important that we start off with and maintain a fit, healthy panel. The point is often made on this forum about the strength of our panel-that has not changed, we already know our key players and are top heavy with talent from midfield through to forwards. McKenna cup was simply an exercise in shaking off the cobwebs and sifting through the extended panel to maybe find a new prospect or two-particularly in defence. In that respect, we didn't do too bad as we are already loaded with midfielders and forwards (even some of our current defenders are actually forwards/midfielders). At least the last couple of games highlighted McCambridge, Higgins and Rice as players that can be nutured into doing a good job for us in defence. A few new defenders will strengthen us our case as contenders going into this season. I think it was pointed out earlier that Martin Reilly looked to have picked up a bad injury last night? Given the season that is coming up, I think it was important we avoided something like that happening last night.
Again, with the optimistic viewpoint-have not seen much comment on the goal scored by that lad Connaty. A fricking cracker. I'm not sure if the lad got any other time on the ball-but he seized his opportunity to do something brillantly. Taking on and skinning the Cavan backs and giving Galligan no chance with a piledriver. Well done

Some mad stuff being said here. I'm glad we got to see so many players they used near 40 and not including injured players. We will never see who is good enough without game time. My take away is young kierans and rice will be starters in a few years time

If you gave me the choice of unearthing a few players .similar to last year , and winning the ‘even the McKennas don’t care’ cup it’s an easy choice , Christ the pitch was like a bog as well , in the pit of winter , talk about over reacting , madness.
I don't think too many people are complaining about not winning the McKenna Cup or about trying out lots of new players - it is more about throwing them all in at once (ar half time) - therefore leaving them with little leadership or direction. Add in the fact that Cavan did not make many changes, so our new men had really little chance to make a good impression .
