I'm all over the place what I listen to
Recently a lot of electronic drone stuff. Mainly while working and needing a bit of focus

Anytime running/exercising I listen to a playlist usually with some old faves-Husker Du, The Birthday Party, Stooges, with a bit of ganga tinted 70's dub for the cool down

Don't get to many shows in my old age.
Last one was Mogwai in Belfast earlier this year. Always enjoy the Moggies.
That would have been my first show since before the pandemic-and that was Teenage Fan Club (2019?). I remember a boyo from Lurgan (Malojian) opening for then
A friend is trying to persuade me to see Cowboy Junkies in November. Still undecided.

Rumjacks are an Aussie crowd? Kind of folk punk?

Sorry Pat. Didn't mean to put you off. I'm a self confessed massive music geek and sometimes a bit guilty of losing the run of myself when opportunity arises for discussion. Would hope all would feel welcome on this thread-think its great off-topic topic :)

Have always tended to drift towards music a little more 'on the fringe', maybe partly from being bit of a wannabe punk, way, way back in the day. Its still the main stuff I have on headphones when out for a run. Makes me think I'm younger when the legs are saying otherwise

But I would have wide tastes, from 70's Bowie to the beautiful old classical Mexican Bolero music that Mrs Pablo adores (and basis for my avatar)

I agree, the scene today does not inspire. Its the late 70 spanning into early 90's that works best for me.

Any of the concerts I would manage to get to are by groups/artists who originated in that time frame.

Enjoyed Teenage Fan Club when they played here. Back in the day they had the same froppy hairstyle I tried to adopt around 1994-so it was a nice sort of jolt to see a bunch of balding, pauchy geezers take the stage. I fitted right in.
Mogwai (big, big Celtic fans-sometimes make half time pitchside appearences at Celtic Park) would be of that generation also

You wouldn't expect any other type of response from a Tyronie.

You must be no size at all James, if Uncle Hugo is calling you ‘little’ ;)

No sign of them yet though, and I’ve had Radio 6 Counties on all day.

Instead of the dung around these days, I find myself going back in time looking for music. Which means that the band has split up or they’re dead, so I’ve no chance of seeing them live. Unless they come back as a hologram.

Anyhoo, we’re going back a bit here (when I was in my teens), but I’m a big fan of Buddy Holly’s stuff. Hard to beat Roy Orbison as well (yep, both dead). Then we have The Doors, T Rex, Thin Lizzy, Johnny Cash.

The 80’s was a weird time. Some great music but a lot of crap too. No particular band I really got into during the 80’s, other than maybe U2. But I daren’t attend one of their gigs now because I would have the urge to take my shoes off and fire them at that Bonzo bellend.

Then we come to The Cranberries, early Oasis, Blur, The Verve, Supergrass, Aerosmith and some of Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana’s stuff.

Nearer to home, it’s hard to beat a bit of Christy Moore, The Saw Doctors, The Waterboys.

And just to sound a bit sophistimicated, a bit of jazz and classical thrown in for good measure.

PS. Stop laughing

Yes mate, they’re Aussies. Do great covers of I’ll tell my ma and wild mountain thyme.
Check out ‘fistful of roses’ or ‘Light in my shadow’ for an intro and go from there.
