That's sort of right, but partly wrong.

They did indeed have proof. Four members of staff on duty that evening and one had it posted on their social media. They were all asked to open their phones and show recent photos. 3 did and 1 wouldn't. They were told if the one that did it didn't own up everyone would be let go and the guilty party fessed up. So yeah technically they didn't have any proof except the posting on SM and an admission.

They have a clause in their contracts that state no phones in stock rooms etc. and breaches like this would lead to instant dismissal for gross misconduct. As far as I can make out, CB had nothing to do with it. It was solely down to O'Neill and their procedures. I think a severe rap over the knuckles and a final warning or something would have been suffice, but letter of the law says they were entitled to let them go. There is no law in the land would let you dismiss someone without proof or admission. O'Neill would be hung out to dry and rightly so. Neither is it fair to throw accusations at county board which may have been correct, but still inappropriate.

My nephew now works for them and that's where I got that from.

Cheers calm, Mrs sent your version of events to the mother of young fella and totally different to real events.
At no point was he asked to show recent photos. In meeting he was told someone said it was him.
He was sent for a formal displinary meeting, and result of that said based on probability at no point have they said they had evidence.
Thought myself outcome a bit harsh for 16 year old which is why I posted in first place.

Yeah sounds a bit like chinese whispers alright!

I honestly think it was OTT. Nobody died at the end of the day. It certainly didn't spoil the launch as the place was packed and people queued for over 40 minutes in some cases just to buy new ones plus loads of other stuff. I seriously doubt anyone lost out. They could have made an example without sacking. Maybe a public flogging would have been more appropriate - kidding of course.......or am I?? yeah I am.

They need to get with it and realise that this is the era we're living in, where the craving to be first overrules being sensible. Possibly the culprit will now rise to become an incredibly clever and powerful leader! I didn't know if it was a lad or a lass. As my nephew said, "they were just acting the maggot to see who had the biggest kahoonahs!!" He believed there was a bit of egging on and bravado involved, so to be honest a kid at 16 won't really understand the consequences of that type of misbehaviour in work, unless they were involved in a family business or something previously.

A misfortunate event whatever the details. But I suppose it’s maybe a big thing these days to be the first in the know, and tell everyone else about it. These mobiles really are a curse (Yes I’m using one now, but that’s not the point).

That's it a load of young ones working in the place and I'm sure no bad intentions meant by the photo.
Unfortunately according to the family this boy didn't take photo and provided evidence that it didn't come from his phone so they feel he has been made a scapegoat & the "culprit " still working there.

Yeah I think that sound about right. Just a bit of bravado. If he was wrongly accused I don't think I'd let it sit though to be honest and if he truly provided the evidence then it's unfair.
