Qualifiers 2019

To hell with it. Nothing to lose, Mayo will let us play ball, down had goal chances, we’ll go down and see where it takes us! Long summer ahead if we get the win!

These games will take place on the weekend of June 29-30, two of which will be live and exclusive on Sky Sports on Saturday, June 29.

We should be one of them you'd imagine. Kildare and Tyrone the other.

If we get the win still have to beat the losers of 1 of the championships to make super 8s so I wouldnt be saying it's going to a long summer just yet

Apart from Tyrone away, that's the toughest draw we could have been given. The fact that it was Sean Cavanagh who picked us out of the hat makes it worse somehow! :D

Mayo, like Monaghan in some ways are a team that have been on the road for a long time, relying on the same players to get them over the line time after time. They've shown signs that they are on a downward slide, but still have quality players all over the field. They have outstanding defenders in their fullback line in Chris Barret, Brendan Harrison and Keith Higgins. However they've shown that they can be got at and Down created a lot of goal chances against them. Lee Keegan, Patrick Durcan and Colm Boyle make a serious impact from half back, especially Keegan Durcan, who can kick two or three points a game. Aidan O'Shea is a powerhouse at midfield, but thankfully Matthew Ruane is out, as he's looked brilliant at midfield. However, Diarmuid O’Connor is playing there now and he's top class. Conor Loftus and Fionn McDonagh are fresh blood and were meant to have had a big games against Down. Jason Doherty, Kevin McLoughlin and Andy Moran make up some serious firepower up front.

I can't say that I'm confident about this one. Mayo at home, with Armagh coming to town, will be really fired up. Defensively we'll be really up against it, as they have score threats from all over the field. I've no doubt that we can match them in a lot of areas, I just worry, that defensively we've looked a bit at sea at times, and coming up against the National League champions, who've been in several All Ireland Finals over the last number of years, maybe a step too far for us this time. We'll have to get our match ups right and get stuck into them from the very off, like Roscommon did, who got into their heads and disrupted their play.

We played Roscommon in Portlaois last year. That’s a neutral venue.
