There will be another 3-4 of that team from yesterday who have ‘star’ potential. And it is a young group as well. 5 of that starting team are from the u17 team and a few of them that played and came on are from ‘good stock’. Fathers, uncles are AI winners. That’s a very strong team coming through and I would suspect 7-8 of them will be regular senior players for the next 10-12 years.

Any potential for that team to do well in the ulster championship? They could have a chance given how well some of the players did in the senior championship

Is there an Ulster u19?

Was gonna ask the same question.

If there is it’s hard to know how well they might do. Underage is notoriously hard to predict as from county to county ye just don’t know. The likes of young Finnegan, Fitzie and Tomas Og Duffy though are top class players so they would compete with anyone I’d say

Predictions 2023
Senior - cross
Intermediate - cullyhanna
Junior - ballyhagen

Also think cross and cullyhanna have a decent shout at Ulster, if these teams can't compete on the provisional stage it speaks volumes for the state of club football in our county

Predictions 2023
Senior - Crossmaglen
Intermediate - Cullyhanna
Junior - Collegeland

Think the intermediate will be the most competitive of the lot this year. Junior football has really went backwards though, only 2/3 teams max that can muster a challenge. ONLY 3 junior clubs have their own underage structure, rest are amalgamated and it shows at senior level when they are coming down the stretch and have bare bones, then gas.

Dunno about that. Reverting to the group format doesn’t really lend itself to shocks; and in truth from 2B downwards is Junior standard. I’ll be surprised if anyone outside of Cullyhanna or Culloville wins it (St Paul’s possible darkhorses).

There probably will be some tankings in the group stages of intermediate and junior. The group stage championship is a balls. Gives no hope of a dark horse getting a realistic chance of a run. I thought last years club championship was brilliant, knock out all on the line and some great games.

yes but it does give us more matches
nice to see the county players back with their clubs and at least the group stages will guarantee we get to see them for a few games

question.
are the group stages drawn on finishing position in the league?
e.g. cullyhanna are promoted to 1B. So do they go into the senior or intermediate draw ??

no no, the championship will consist of the teams in the league divisions. my understanding of the group championship is that the top 4 in 1A/2A/3A will be seeded as top seeds, next 4 (bottom half of 1A/2A/3A) will be second seeds, next 4 (top teams in 1B/2B/3B) will be 3rd seeds and then the next 4 (bottom half of 1B/2B/3B) will be 4th seeds.
Senior and intermediate have 16 teams in each, groups of 4/4/4/4, teams play each other once and top 2 teams progress to quarter finals? or will it be like the GAA groups top 4 teams get to quarter final and the 2nd and 3rd teams play in a quarter final preliminary round?
junior slightly different as there are only 14 teams. I believe it will be 4 groups of 3 teams so will be 4/4/3/3

This was the format pre-covid. Not very exciting and always favours the stronger teams. That said, I still expect a few banana skins in the senior championship.
