Took in the Maghery v Killeavey game on Friday night. I found it very enjoyable, with end to end action and plenty of twists. No love lost between the teams, and a key turning point was the sending off of Stefan Forker, in what was a large melee. Maghery has been cruising at half time, but Killeavey came out reinvigorated for the second half and edged ahead in the closing minutes.

I bolted quickly at the final whistle, but I subsequently heard that the ref had difficulty leaving the pitch, which yet again underlines to me the problem we have. Why anyone would be a match official (and thank God there are those who do) is beyond me. It is very clear why some match officials do be fearful about making some big calls. We have a culture in our games that allows this to happen and until it is properly addressed, underlying issues will continue to occur.

I was at our own game in Abbey Park on Saturday evening, when Carrickcruppen caused a minor sensation, coming from ten points down to deservedly snatch victory. At one point in the first half, we went through a spell that brought back memories of our defeat to Kerry in Croke Park this year. Everything we kicked - with almost 100% possession - went over the bar. We literally could do no wrong. However, 'Cruppen managed a goal just before half time and that instilled belief in them for an excellent second half comeback. In the dying moments, we were denied what would have been an undeserved draw, when a brilliant attempt for a two pointer came back off the post.

I think we are guaranteed to qualify, regardless of how we go against Clann Eireann on Friday, but the nature of our collapse at the weekend does not augur well for the next few weeks.

If Dromintee win and Harps lose heavily they could be out I think? Unlikely but possible.

Or maybe the Clann Eirean results don’t affect the score difference if its a 3 way tie on 2 points?

That's my understanding too. So if we lose to Clann Eireann, and Dromintee beat Cruppen, then the mini league comes into play, with the top two going through.

We've already completed our matches from that mini league and are on a score difference of plus 4 points, which means that that plus 4 will need to be balanced by an inferior and negative score difference by another team(s), so we are guaranteed at least top two in that mini league, and thus qualification.
