SPORTS NEWS: Outrage as an actual game of football breaks out in the Tyrone Club Championship
There was outrage in Tyrone last night as an actual game of football broke out in the Club Championship. Tyrone GAA bosses look likely to launch an investigation into the game which witnesses say involved more than 30 players in a free flowing, high scoring game of football.
Highly incriminating footage has also emerged from the game which shows that no sweepers were used at any stage and no cards were issued.
A Lurgan Liar reporter was there to take in the chaotic scenes: “I knew something was wrong when I spotted a number of handshakes and jovial conversations taking place before the throw-in. The tense atmosphere continued as both teams went full tilt in an end-to-end game of football with hand-passing and ball retention noticeably absent. Both teams lined out 15 against 15 with no sweepers and the corner forwards actually had more than five touches during the entire match. The closest we came to an injury was when goalkeeper tripped over his kicking tee.”
He continued: “Further ugly scenes continued after the final whistle as spectators rushed on to the pitch to congratulate the players involved. A number of high fives and congratulatory backslaps were also witnessed.”
A source close to Tyrone GAA said: “A thorough investigation will take place once the referee’s official match report has been received, with both teams facing likely expulsion from this year’s Championship. That’s not the way we play football in Tyrone.”
