On the subject of mcgeeney’s interview with the IN, he made an interesting point about his goal with the team to make progress, he accepts the ‘breakthrough’ for the team may come after his tenure is over and is looking at long term gain not short term. With the strength of the squad we have the potential for a great year, but many of the young players may need another couple of years to fully develop. Personally I believe mcgeeney will not be fully appreciated until after he has left the set up.

Interesting point and I'd tend to agree. I'm a big supporter of him and his efforts, but I'm not sure he can finish things. McCorry seems to have added something positive and maybe it's what is needed. Still believe though that Paul Grimley should have been retained or brought back.

I'd agree with this as well. There is no doubt the next management will have a strong crossmaglen feel to it, however, lets hope we have a big year this year and mcgeeney isn't ruing mistakes / poor decisions / bad luck come the end of the season.

I'm reasonably confident of promotion to start with

Personally, if super 8s are made this year I’d tend to give him another 2 years (I know many will disagree but just look at how he has developed the squad since he inherited an aging squad in 2014) but if not I think Aidan o’rourke would be a fantastic addition

Yeah I can agree with the two years "if" and totally with you on the development even if we got a rocky start after the previous year and our exploits in Croke Park v Donegal, but I think we were destined to go backwards then anyway with retirements and departures.

Aidan has been in already and didn't really set the scene alight. Maybe with the squad as it is that may be different, but I think we're moving along ok at the minute. A few years back on the old forum I said "take small steps forward and it's not so far to fall back and regroup" and a notorious member challenged that scoffing the idea and trying to belittle the idea that it might be sensible to not get ahead of ourselves and we should be much more ambitious.

Ambition is great, but must be mixed with reality..........yes I did say that, but it's because I can't find my orange glasses. I genuinely think that as supporters we have woken up over the last few years and realise we are in our place and can improve, but because we won one major title and our neighbours won three after us doesn't mean we have a given right or indeed any right to expect another success. It took the mighty Dublin many years to resurrect themselves through the late 80's, 90's and early 00's.

What we have now is potential. Massive potential in my opinion and I totally agree with @Bert that promotion back to the top is possible. If not this year at least the foundation is set for next and if we continue "as is" then that would be expected next year.

For what it's worth, I don't believe Kieran wouldn't want an Ulster title. I seriously can't believe he'd be happy if Down beat us again. We were caught badly and, at the time, embarrassingly beaten by Fermanagh. As a supporter, even I wouldn't be happy leaving Newry in May without planning for tickets for a semi-final. Back to the here and now and I'm hoping to plan on Thursday where I'll be on Sunday for our semi-final. Yep a semi-final of a Mickey Mouse competition would be nice. It'd be the first time in how many years?? So I'll take that as a start for the year and let's see where we go after that, because unless I'm not around next year, regardless of what happens in this one, I'll be ready to go again and happily waste my money for each game.

So mcgeeney would take defeat against down for the super 8s,so he doesn't care about the Ulster championship so disheartening for Armagh supporters
In no way, shape or form does Mc Geeney suggest that he does not want to beat Down. This would be a wild misinterpretation of what he is saying. He clearly will be preparing the team to win every game. This is merely a hypothetical situation which may or may not occur.
To put it another way, which would you rather have- Armagh are beaten in Newry and then go on to qualify for the super 8s or Armagh beat Down and then fail to make the super 8s? I know what my choice would be.

In any case he should of never answered the loaded question, he should of been smart enough to say we aim to do both this year.

Sure don’t let the truth get in the way of someone having a pop at Geezer

Did anyone else catch Geezers (yes I know he's not known personally to me, but he'll not see this so I'm ok) interview on RTE radio 1 after the game yesterday where he clarified his previous comments about the Dr. McKenna cup and how other things he said were taken totally out of context?

Oh and has anyone heard any rumours when the dates are for the first rounds proper in Ulster Championship. Looking to book a short trip but don't want to miss the game v down.

Expensive
Isn't it a bit? Add to that having to smuggled on a boat from Coleraine landing somewhere along the west coast below Galway and then travelling in an auld Hiace van under a load of straw across the country to get to Croke Park it'll mean a few new scams and avoiding taxation for a couple more months than usual.

The control freak stewards won't allow you to sit on the terraces. You have to sit in a stand.......:confused:

What if we all sit down on the terraces?

And if they try to physically make us stand up, we’ll just go all floppy and be a dead weight.
