Ulster Championship 2023

Id love a rattle at Derry in the Athletic Grounds. Not that the Ulster championship actually means anything. League and then all Ireland group stages more important.

The draw in Connacht is wild. All the heavy hitters on one side, meaning that a Div 4 team are guaranteed a final place - and a spot in the All Ireland Series.

Wouldn't want to be knocking about Div 2 in 2023. No room for error now, as you're probably looking at needing a top half finish to keep your place in the Sam Maguire. That task made more difficult by the presence of Dublin and Derry in the division.

Good draw for us. Step up in quality every round if we progress but strong enough opposition to give us real thought. Prepare right and we should have enough to beat Antrim. Cavan in Breffni will be seriously tough and they will be up for it.

These are teams who everything to gain by getting to a provincial final so should be a good test. We are probably ok this year for being in the last 16 but if we were to drop into division 2 the year after things could get tough especially given how competitive Ulster has been and our recent record.

It will be interesting to see how seriously teams who are sure of a place in the last 16 take the provincial championships. Is there anything to safeguard against fielding weak teams to get easier opposition in the round robins or block higher quality teams from getting in?

With that draw I think we should have real aspirations to reach an Ulster final.

I know with the format this year there are questions about the worth of actually winning a provincial championship. But personally would love to see us winning an Ulster championship
