Ulster is a different animal that county and the step up is huge. Generally speaking ‘nice’ football teams can win county but cannot win the provincial title. Rougher weather, wetter pitches, all teams at a similar level. Each team needs dogs of war, work horses who plough through.

Experience is also vital. It’s rare that a team comes from nowhere and goes the whole way. They’ve generally been in and out of the provincial scene a few times before making the breakthrough.
Historically Tyrone, Monaghan and Derry have produced consistent teams at intermediate and junior level and I would suspect that they will be there or thereabouts as winners in both competitions this year, and that’s not being harsh on Cruppen or Belleeks who id love to see pushing on.
Senior it’s hard to look beyond Scotstown or Kilcoo. Glen have the talent and experienced winning at underage but it’s a huge step up to playing against teams who have been at this level for years. Scotstown only downfall is they haven’t been challenged in Monaghan hardly this year but in the Hughes, Beggan, Carey, McCarthy and a solid under cast they have the players to do it. Mentality os what may stop them.
Certainly feel like Scotstown are in a great position to finally get over the line this year in Ulster after two previous final defeats, they have come through their own county without having to really break stride and are able to peak at the right time of the year for this comp a bit like the cross teams of the past. If Cross can get past CE on Sunday and that is a big if, the Antrim champions and tyrone/fermanagh champions are more than beatable. A 2015 ulster club final rematch may be on the cards.
Great to see the return of this competition this year the opposite side of the draw to Armagh has some cracking games and in intermediate and junior a chance for Cruppen and Beleek to end poor records for Armagh sides at that level in Ulster which they hopefully will do.
Best of luck to both clubs involved this weekend

Anyone know what creggan and randalstown like? CE should progress I would imagine, don't know enough about randalstown to comment. When was the last time a Armagh club won a game in ulster intermediate?

Intermediate level in Antrim is fairly decent, Randalstown did a league and championship double. Creggan are also not to be sniffed at, any team that beats Cargin is a good outfit.

I know Naomh Eanna made the intermediate all ireland final 3 years ago so it must be a strong grade in Antrim

Glen appear to be some bookies favorite for Ulster, as well as a run for All Ireland. Be interesting to see how they get on this weekend

st eunans arent to be taken lightly, i see alot of people writing them off. Dont be surprised if they come out on top
St Eunan’s were a bit of a surprise to win Donegal, the word is that although they’ve a great team coming through and will likely challenge in the coming years that this year is maybe a bit too early. Glen have been knocking on the door in recent years and with Malachy O’Rourke at the helm have a brilliant tactician, motivator and man-manager - they’re rightly favourites. Very exciting championship all the same And there could well be a surprise package.
