It is changing to u13,15,17
I dont think its a big issue if clubs have a proper coaching plan in place and actually coach ALL their players
The issue is the alleged drop off in player numbers.
In years gone by it was always mentioned that after 16yrs of age player drop increased. Now the whining is that after u17 whats for players
If the players are well coached and respected its likely they'll stay longer
Introduce a B team if there isnt one
Ask for an U18 league
Ask for an U19 league but play 11 or 13 aside. U19 is university age players so they may be training with the senior team so give them games, organise a tournament etc
At underage its about developing players and coaches so that the shop window is strong
Player dropoff always happens and will continue to do so

Agree, do u have any idea what the rule will be regarding playing 17 year olds at senior, will it be allowed? Also, why was it changed?

Should have been left alone, u12,u14,u16,u18, I didn’t see the problem with it

In Armagh it was school year ie 12.5,14.5 etc.

Croke Park seemingly want 13 15 etc to be standard throughout Ireland. More rearranging the deckchairs than doing anything meaningful to counteract dropout.

Dropout is continually used over tye years
The problem, as I see it, is/was that society has changed in that years ago sport was it and you weren't getting out of the house unless it was known where you were going
Now young uns are out from 13/14 drinking, taking drugs going home and repeat. Peer pressure has changed
As I said previously if we coach ALL the kids and not just the better ones more might stay
In most clubs you hear if we get 2 or 3 a year through, more if we are lucky, then its deemed great.
There will be the odd anomaly to this.
Is the dropout in town/cities greater than in country clubs, vice versa or the same?
The better player at underage usually makes it because of ability but also because of encouragement and support from coaches, the club and at home. Imagine all players got this regardless of ability
However you cant make a silk purse from a pigs ear

The way 13/15/17 is, it leaves lads in 4th year(14/15) playing aginst lads in 6th year(16/17), that’s equivalent to playing in the age group above u in the old system, i think more and more people will drop off at that age, although i do think that all the lads who go out and drink wreak havoc in the dressing room and it does good when they drop off, any lads with genuine love for the game stay on no matter what
