What happened the Armagh TV van?

Does anyone know why Armagh TV stopped covering Armagh championship games outside of the athletic grounds. It was very active in it first couple years but noticeably covers much fewer games now. I did enjoy watching the highlights it provided when it use to travel the county to record games. Was it scaled back due to lack of volunteers or technical feasibility or even concern it may affect the attendance of matches? Anyone have any insight or opinions on the matter.

The guy that does that lives up the road from me and has a different van now. I know he still does the county work because he's always in the Athletic Grounds at games. He'll be at the same wedding I'm going to on Saturday. I'll get a chat with him and see what I can find out.

Well it's fairly straightforward. One of the guys that did the camerawork with the tv team is now living and working in Galway so it means that there is now only one of them and nobody has come forward to volunteer to help out. Those that do only stay around for a short time mostly, because it is all genuinely voluntary and they don't seem to have the enthusiasm to stay and help. They are doing their best, but under pressure because of numbers. They had hoped to start this years coverage on Friday evening, but there wasn't infrastructure to allow it. He explained all that they needed and I'm not getting into all that, because I'm not sure I understood properly. He said he's really busy with his own work too and means he can't commit as much time either as he was, but does as much as he can.

They're hoping that this weekend they're gonna start the live coverage again depending on getting things in place. Himself and bainisteoir from the old forum do most of the work around these and all the live stuff that LATV does, but they need help.

As for the van, the big one they had was sponsored and that sponsorship ended, so he got one of his own so he could carry on doing the county work which he already did, like recording games for senior football, minor and U20s and the hurlers and all that when possible plus al the other stuff they do.

County board make no decisions on what they cover and it's left entirely to them to try and do what they can. I said there were a few that were disappointed at there not being as much seemingly happening and he agreed that it might be annoying or seem that it's that way, but they just don't have the manpower and try and select quality over quantity and he pointed out the number of games they did last year which made a lot of money for the county - there was a lot if you search. They're determined to continue and make it bigger and better but need help and asked if I knew anyone. I don't, but if anyone does, PM me and I'll put you in touch - it seems they need camera owner/operators and people who know about setting up the technical bits for video work. Think that means cables and stuff!

Its a great service especially to those who physically cant make games due to their personal circumstances etc...

Voluteering seems to be on the wane in GAA circles but.if there are enough people to help out the workload reduces.
Other counties seem to be following what these guys and the county setup and supported.

Yeah @JoeH He was saying them'uns that used the AG last year are going with something similar, but they're hiring a company to do it all rather than using volunteers as far as he knows. I get what you mean about volunteering and I think the same way, it's just that he was explaining the cost of the equipment he uses to do the games (he owns that vast majority of it) and it's measured in 10s of thousands and to quote him roughly "I have to work hard to allow me to do the voluntary stuff, which reduces the time I can spend on it" or something like that.

Don't think travellers buy used vans bull. They either buy new with a fist full of cash or "borrow" one ;)

Excellent, lads do a great job!!
They do that alright. Was a bit crazy though a couple of weeks back when they were getting a lot of abuse on Facebook for having a weekend off. Some of the comments were a bit daft and inconsiderate. Maybe them ones up in diving midget land should have done it so the games were covered. It was in their home venue after all! :D
