2026 Ulster Championship

However, I do not know why we have a single giant thread for the whole season. It would have made sense to have a Ulster thread and then a AI series thread, then the Monaghan and Derry discussions would be separated. The forum managers should consider doing this still.
Or. Someone could start new threads

Im pretty sure it happened 2 mins into the game. Think that's why referee only give a free in. Was too early in match, which shouldn't matter if it's the first minute or the 69th minute.

The advantage rule and how long it lasts frustrates me also. One time on Sunday the played continued for a good 40 to 50 seconds and was then pulled back. Other times referee indicated after few seconds it was over.

Another example of the rule being open to interpretation depending on who the ref is and what mood they are in that day.

The end of normal time in the Derry and Monaghan match was a farce. How can the official who is referring the match not know the rules but others on the pitch clearly did.

Going to keep ranting. Pretty sure the equaliser at end of normal time from McCarron taking from the sideline, he stepped on the pitch. It happens to us on Sunday and McGrane is pulled for it (although he kicked it straight to a Down player anyway).

Too many rules and too many modified/ tweaked over the past 18 months
McGrane was rightfully pulled for it tho. Seen the McCarron point. Good point. Didn’t care enough to see if he broke the line tho

Yeah but the loser of them can afford no further slip-ups. They are into straight knock-out.

Some people seem to be looking some fairytale of a draw that gets Kerry and Donegal knocked out early. It's not going to happen, if Armagh are to win an All-Ireland we will have to beat one of them, maybe both.

Also

Why are some people intent on curbing discussions about the upcoming Derry game?

"We need to focus on the Ulster final"

"We" in this forum don't need to focus on anything, we are not the players or the management or the county board. Do you honestly think a few posts in here has any sway on what takes place within McGeeney's inner workings.

Imagine Geezer's interview after an Ulster Final defeat.
"Kieran what do you put it down to?"

"Yeah... Banana Man on the OrchardFans forum was posting about the Derry match. It got into the camp and spread like wildfire"

The All-Ireland draw came out that we play Derry, people are going to talk about it. Stop with the discussion policing
For me the most important match is always the next match, that's on May 17th v Monaghan. I couldn't care less what others discuss.

Fantastic performance on Sunday, well done to all. Fourth Ulster final in a row, let's hope this year we get over the line.

But hey, what a rant/lecture! Seems like you're the one that 's doing the 'discussion policing' - and bananas are supposed to be good for stress. Maybe go and have a lie down!

Jimmy needs to deliver this year. The messiah came home, the piggy banks were emptied, vast sums lifted in New York and further. The chickens have come home to roost.

There’s huge pressure on him to bring Sam to the hills. Anglo Celt Y1, All Ireland Final Y2, Sam Y3? The belief is still there but the natives are a fickle bunch and they have a habit of turning on each other.

Let's not take the eyes off the prize here. I will be ecstatic if we get over the Monaghan challenge. The feeling of defeat the last 3 years coming out of clones has been awful. So close and couldn't win one. 2008 was a long time ago, I remember it fondly. We all shouted for Francie to come out of the changing rooms to celebrate with us, but he was too shy. That was the end of that squad and we haven't been winners since.

Monaghan for me are similar too down but have way more experience and cuteness when needed, if we get on top we need to keep the foot down on them, we hammered them in league but they didn't have any Scotstown players and if we press aggressively beggan can go over the top of the press, I still fancy us in the match but we need to keep our eyes on the price and keep focused,

Read the article on McGeeney leaving the door open for players to return. Some suggestions on twitter to get Soupy back. Wondering what the panel would look like now if everyone capable was on board. I would say it would be formidable.
Have you a link to it?

Soupy, Rian and Grimley would be some boost if we got them back.

We have a strong team and bench but with a few injuries we have had it's pushed to be the limit, if we got maybe Rian or a mcparlan back that be good, grimley and soupy are older and have a lot of miles and I can't see them wanting to come back,
Wouldn't have thought Grimley is that old isn't he around 31/32. However, he has given A LOT to Armagh and owes is nothing. Like @Onlooker has said it's taken a lot of family time away and his condition certainly won't help, remember him talking about it on GAA social. Would have been nice for him to have another chance at an Ulster though. Campbell at about 35 probably not going to comeback and not well suited to the new style.

Oisin O’Neill would be keen to see Soupy back to play that impact sub role I’m sure lol.

Soupy and Grimley owe us nothing, would love for their sake that they could get an Ulster medal that they’ve been trying for for years.

Rian is frustrating obviously, we know what he can do and we wouldn’t have won Sam without him, but there’s so much more potential with that lad if he was playing to his best he’d be in the running for footballer of the year every year.

Just have to go with what we have for now, Conaty and McMullan are super lads who’d get on any team in the country.

Sometimes bringing players back can have a negative impact, there would be an element of concern around fitness but the main concern would be the rest of the panel particularly the lads who would be dropping out to accomodate them returning. IMO it would be mad to bring anyone back after that performance, it would upset the whole balance and distract from the occassion.

Armagh would be safer lying low, they seem to have a policy of staying off social media etc which is a good thing albeit it difficult. I think this is the best way to proceed and get the job done against Monaghan.

After this it's like a new phase and there could be a case for bringing someone back at this stage to provide a further bit of impetence but it would need to be done correctly (which I am sure they would do)

Having to go up against all three O'Neills in the closing stages of a game would be fun to see - especially when 2 /3 have shown they are capable of 2 pointers and goals. Aaron probably needs a bit more time to prove it.
