Same old same old, defence cost us & not able to see a close game out. Different mindset needed
We had it and lost it
Stefan wtf with the two hand passes
Second one was criminal it really was
It was never on
Fair play on the comeback - excellent! Pitty we couldn't just keep the composure at end - Soupy was dead on feet and gave away 2 key possessions and lack of discipline in the tackle at the death was final nail in coffin once again.
The forwards cost them in the end after Armagh went 2 up went defencive & the forwards kept giving the ball away in good scoring positions, playing out a game when only 2 points up is pathetic
Usual clowns yapping about Geezer
That will go down as best game of the year.
Rian, Turbitt, Kelly all stood up. Forker was good and then 2 brain farts cost us, same with Soupy.
An anyway decent defence and we win that today.
I see some familiar posters have returned
Turbit and McGill were the 2 big positives for me today. Turbit with his gutsy attacking threat and McGills long kickouts were excellent; leaves far more options from the restart going forward. I think these two will be nailed on starters next year on.
Lads, no matter what your opinion on management, that first half set-up was tactical suicide!
It just seems programmed into the lads to retreat into a defensive strategy when we get our noses in front. Monaghan were just waiting on the killer blow and we retreated.
McGeeney's inability to read the game meant Armagh had to work three times as hard to get back into meaning we were dead on our feet in the last couple of minutes. The tactics used in the first 20 odd minutes left the defence exposed and McGeeney was on the sideline telling players to push up on Beggan's kick outs. In 3o minutes of first half football where we are supposed to be fresh we conceded FOUR goals. This is unforgiveable at this level, I would have preferred Beggan to kick short and make them work hard for their scores rather than let them walk through our defence and score at will.
We have had 7 years of McGeeney who may well have got us to division one but ultimately he has done nothing when it comes to championship football. The players played themselves into the ground and yes they made mistakes but they were tired because they were chasing the game due to the the faults on the sideline. I feel we left that game behind us and rather than being in an Ulster final for the first time in 10+ years we are back to having the same arguments we always do year after year.
They were chasing a big lead down for most of the game and were probably dead on their feet. I wouldn't point the blame at them
Geezer. Fanatic. Armagh legend. No doubt giving everything to make this work.
But it isn’t working.
Only 3 Ulster championship win in 7 years. Against Down (after ET), Derry (division 3) and Antrim (division 4) - no big guns.
At the same time there has been seven defeats and the continuation of pretty much our worst run of Ulster championship form in history. Only once previously in well over 100 years have we gone this long without winning 2 Ulster championship games in a row.
Only Antrim and Derry have been less successful than us in Ulster over the course of McGeeney’s tenure. This form is not normal, not something you just accept.
Loyalty counts for a lot in the GAA, but there comes a time to question whether you’re getting the best out of what you have. You owe the players that. Management simple do not have the track record to justify continuation.
Emotions are mixed. Hope from the comeback but despair from not being able to see it out when we did the near impossible of getting back into it. The loose passes at the end killed us. No need to make them. Thought the frees were soft but after all these years no one seems to be able to coach the players to tackle without fouling. We need a fresh approach.
Geezer is not responsible for that whole run
He’s responsible for the last seven years and in that time only two other counties have a worse record in Ulster. To decide to continue under that record is to put sentimentality over logic. No one in Armagh football aspires to be the 7th best team in Ulster.
It's ashame there's no back door again the year
Good job Armagh aren’t the 7th best team in ulster then
Disappointed in how the final 5 + extra were played. Monaghan there for the taking.
Not good enough to defend and see out a game, needed to be going for the jugular and keeping Monaghan, who were dead on their feet, pushed back.
Brilliant to see 2 club men contribute so much to the comeback, Turb goal was fantastic, from the pass in to the bravery going for it.
TK seems to score every time he comes on.
RoN exceptional. Becoming as important as MM is to DnG
Just not to be though
Who can we say we have we been better than?
Monaghan, Donegal, Tyrone, and Cavan have won Ulster titles during McGeeney’s reign. Fermanagh at least made a final 3 years ago, Down too 4 years ago.
We’ve been short of all of those. Only the orange tinted glasses would have anyone thinking otherwise.
A few league wins is really all the current management has in their credit. It’s not enough.
Absolutely gutted so can only imagine how Geezer & the boys are feeling, it was completely gone, then it was there & then it was gone again
Can't bring myself to say much more at the minute, too raw, but at least I can rest easy in knowing that the same forum members who only ever post after a defeat will keep the thread running for the rest of the night, great stuff lads, good to have you back again. I would say you've been sorely missed but that would be a blatant lie.
Thanks to the boys for giving your all today in weather I struggled in as a spectator!! unfortunately it just wasn't enough
