Hates Armagh with a passion. In saying that, we haven't won a game yet so can't blame him.
He has been bigging us up this year and has been very complimentary about the way we play. Hates Armagh with a passion is very far from how he has been talking about us

His opinion hardly matters then, does it?

Those Laois boys seem to have an irrational thing against us. They never seemed to beat us when it really mattered. Maybe that’s what it’s all about.

Anyone else see the Armagh v Kerry all Ireland semi from 2000 on TG4 the other night? I was shocked at the quality, it was woeful. Long aimless kick passing which were invariably cut out by both defenses. The tackling was on a whole different planet too, I'd say there would have been about 500 yellow cards if it were nowadays. A totally different game and one that I did not remember even though this was the era I played in. You can see why the game has changed, it was just a free for all, strewn with unforced errors. The modern game may have evolved a bit too much but it simply had to.

Really? My recollection of those games was that they were high qualify entertaining games. Maybe it just goes to show we don’t always look back critically

I would have been the same Niall. If you get a chance look it up. It was also very interesting that it was pre Armagh hate fest as the referee (john Bannon) was very kind to us and my memory was to the contrary. Even Martin Carney on commentary was highly complimentary of our style of play. Where did it all go wrong!! Just goes to show how inaccurate the old memory can be.

I remember a lot of boys getting couped and and linesmen bating people with flags and stuff but I just thought we had a bit more structure than this game implied. Maybe it looked better when you were on the pitch which is a distinct possibility. As a half Cullyhanna man I'm sure you'll understand :p

Frig, I didn’t know that was on. Is this a regular thing on TG4, the showing of old matches?

It might have seemed a bit old school all right... the game has changed, but not for the better. Give me long aimless kicking, man to man football any day of the week. Especially Sunday.
