Slightly off topic, but when you talk about a 2 year contract or 5 year contract, does anyone know if a contract actually exists? I’m assuming not, given that ‘volunteers’ don’t need contracts.
If a contract does exist, does it outline the conditions for termination by party?
To get back on topic, I’m certainly not McGeeneys biggest fan but neither am I a hater by any stretch of the imagination.
I don’t think we have improved much if at all since he took over, but we have changed. And that’s important. Basically we can’t change the past, what’s done is done, the decision now is would Armagh’s prospects for 2020 be improved if Kieran was replaced? In my opinion, it’s unlikely.
The current team are loyal to McGeeney and playing for him, to change him would set us back 12 - 24 months.
Tying up my two points, I’d be happy to see McGeeney stay in post but let’s not talk contract length. Take it a year at a time and set some very clear targets that must be achieved if he wants the next year.
For me, promotion to division one next year is a must. Championship can come down to luck of the draw or one off day but league positioning rarely lies.
