Disgrace if true, dont drop to Tyr.ne levels
Lot of people calling burns out here. He had a bad night, he had 50 yards open space im front of him tonight in that second half and little support. The lad also played well in the first 5 games after little football and a bad hand injury. He will come good again i think. And even so he doesnt derseve this level of abuse.
Look, this is just what we have been watching for many years now. Clueless, naive, stupid. Both on the pitch and the sideline.
We have absolutely got the players to get to and stay in division 1 and if we don't get there after next weekend we should be going to look for malachy o'rourke for 2021.
I don't like naming players but paddy burns and ryan Kennedy look like scumbags at times. Very disappointing. James Morgan has too many mistakes in him to be considered a starter now.
On a side note who was on the sideline shouting "Hit him"
Paul Hearty out of retirement? With regards to Hall 's offence - and I am certainly not his biggest fan - but I do not think it was gouging or anything like that. I think he meant to pull the player away from the keeper and just happened to pull his face
Looked bad but not with the worst intentions.
Speaking of the keeper - that is another problem position. He is too small, not good hands - and as for the kick-outs? There has go be better in the county!
I’d like to see the likes of Jamie Cosgrove Stephen Cusack get a game in the Armagh full back line. Paddy Burns shouldn’t be allowed on the pitch again this year after his pathetic performance tonight, miles off his man all night and gave up on a number of occasions in the second half. Management should of had the sense to take him off. On another note I think Aidan Forker should be played as a forward where he most effective, it shows how badly we’re struggling at the back when we have to sacrifice one of our best forwards to perform a defensive role.
Bullshit. The defence has been a problem for a while, as has the goalie imo. We've 1 player from the county champions there, playing out of position. There are better players in the county!! Nobody on the forum wants to see the team lose but they're entitled to air valid grievances.I genuinely don't know if we watched the same game.
For starters, we'll take Burns. Consistently on the better side of his man. A wayward kick pass and a poor over the shoulder shot which shouldn't have been taken aside, he was fairly positive. Lennon turned him inside out once in the second half and ended up kicking wide, no harm done. Really don't get the whole 'pulling out' thing. Have never seen that side to him.
Defensive wise Burns was far from the scapegoat but the TV viewing fans have their mind made up. Kennedy was exposed for the penalty and generally struggled. James gave away the penalty needlessly and alway looked like picking up a booking, and that's a consistent problem. McKay was miles off the pace when he came in but had been unwell I believe. Donaghy would have been a welcome addition.
The calls for Cosgrove and the likes to be starting after a condensed club championship where they performed well for 2/3 games max is a little shallow and laughable. If you think you know better the Kieran and the management, step up And similarly, calling out our Goalkeeper for conceding two goals through penalties and one which was essentially unsaveable, it's laughable. Moaning for the sake of it.
Shields was a bit headless at times but despite the result we had positives. Didn't deserve to win in the end but Gough's lack of protection for Jamie, whilst not an excuse for the loss, was very questionablea and contributed to the result.
It seems Jemar and our own club man Jarly Óg and one are two others are only of benefit coming in when we're in a lead. They don't seem to offer as much when the thing is in the melting pot.
The O'Neills were hugely positive as was Ruairi.
Our first competitive game in 7 months. Roscommon had the benefit of playing Donegal last week whereas we were struck down by Covid infections. We've had a brilliant league campaign so far. First game back, a defeat and the pitchforks are out. Some lads just love to see us lose. 'Fans' is a loose term.
Defence might not be playing well ,but it's all about what way your schooled/coached, the noughties team had a few boys in defence who were not exactly speed merchants, but knew exactly what their job on the field was.Bullshit. The defence has been a problem for a while, as has the goalie imo. We've 1 player from the county champions there, playing out of position. There are better players in the county!! Nobody on the forum wants to see the team lose but they're entitled to air valid grievances.
The same boyo who got Marsden sent off in the 2003 All Ireland FinalFunny how it was your boy that used to play number 7 for that lot who tweeted about it
We now need cavan to drop points. Cavan play kildare today, if they win they go to 8 poimts and have a game against roscommon next week who are up. So essentially cavan are favorites to go up ahead of us now. I agree with other posters that we arent ready for division one, but we need it as playing against top quality opposition is essential. Promotion wasnt lost last night, dropping a 7 point lead against westmeath and having to clinch a draw then from 4 points down was the damaging game. Focus, mentality and in game management from the players is the problem.I honestly didn't think it was all that bad last night. I'm disappointed we faded in the game and ended up losing, but I thought we played well for good patches, they got their goals at crucial times, we had to chase the game, which opened things up and they had the quality to take advantage of it.
Defensively in the first half we were pretty sound in my opinion. Conor Cox, their main scorer didn't get a kick against Kennedy. Forker and Morgan kept their other danger men out of the game. Same for Conor O'Neill who was marking the form player in Roscommon at the moment and he scored their one point from play. The penalty shouldn't have been given and gave them a lifeline when we were on top. I thought we had a good defensive shape, created good turnovers and counter attacked well and got some good scores.
I think in the second half, we saw a mix of factors that ended up with us losing. Roscommon have been playing at a higher level than us, have been winning Connacht titles and competing in the Super 8's. It showed in that second half. They were better conditioned than us, with a lot of their penetration coming from defenders making busting runs up the field, breaking through tackles to create overlaps that lead to scores, or being fouled leading to scorable frees. The concession of two goals in a short space of time is what killed the game. James Morgan, who I thought was doing well, made a rash stupid tackle, which he is always prone to do, when there were enough players around to smother any chance of a goal and at worst a point would have been scored. They then got another goal from one of their defenders making a charge up the field. We had to chase the game, leaving massive amounts of space, which they took advantage of with the players they could bring off the bench and their better game management.
I would agree with the point someone else made about us letting teams back into games when we are on top. It's been an ongoing issue for years and has happened more times than I can count. That is a fair criticism of this team, which at this point is full of seasoned inter county players, who should be able to manage games better. You're never going to be on top for the whole game, but we seem to press the self destruct button as soon as the opposition get on a bit of roll.
Our preparation was far from perfect, they haven't played together in seven months, you could see that we ran out of legs a bit and a team that have been playing at the top level consistently for the last few years took advantage of that. Going forward we played some good stuff. Our work rate was excellent, with forwards dropping back and causing turn overs, and we kicked some great scores. It's irritating that we couldn't keep it up for longer, but I do think a bit of perspective has to be added. Am I right in saying that if we beat Clare we go up? Let's get down there, get it done and get promoted.
Armagh received over 3,000 drawings from children in 30 schools around the county and they stuck the pictures on the seats in the Athletic Grounds,

maghery armagh senior club champions & have only 1 player on the county team
In fairness that is a good Roscommon team. Attack may well be the better side of our team but did we ever look like scoring a goal?
Jesus has the hysteria gone up another notch because of the lockdown after an Armagh defeat ? thank Jesus for @Rufus T Firefly and a few others for their calm, thoughtful reflections in a time where online hysteria is spiralling out of control it’s good to have a cool head now and then .
Firstly Roscommon are a good side they have won Connaught twice in the past few years and that’s no mean feat considering Mayo and Galway and it looks like they have strengthened their squad , their spell in the super 8s and playing Div 1 football was more than evident , their cuteness as well they fouled when they needed to some time cynical and perhaps that’s why they haven’t conceded a goal all year , our fouls were a mixture of tiredness, frustration and stupidity, which is disappointing as in the half period we looked well drilled and disciplined.
Without making excuses the lack of game time for many was evident Burns , Clarke , Grimley have had very little game time and the group hasn’t been together for much time and a lot of them have been playing At a low level so it’s hard to get up to speed but the defending was poor , Dessie Dolan made a good point that I noticed in the league we lose concentration when in control and we let teams back into matches with stupid mistakes . In fairness the first penalty was a poor call but it’s typical of what we were doing pre lockdown .
Some lovely scores today and with a bit more match fitness we could still go up to division 1 .I know people think that we aren’t ready but it will be a good experience even if we end up going down next year it will being many of the young team on so let’s see what next week brings , Clare are an underrated side with a good midfield and have given us trouble in our last few games so we will see if we learn anything next week .
