Not sure about comments about blanket defences, but just used mine to hide and have just about lifted the head above it for some air. I agree for the most part with a lot of comments and not just the positive ones. I'm typing this slowly as I want to avoid wrath :D

A couple of things, as everything I think applies to my thoughts, have already been covered. Blaine Hughes. For heavens sake, how often are people on a forum gonna try and hound out a lad that is for the most part really good. Please stick your hand up if you don't make mistakes and I'll point towards a stranger to the truth! 3 goals and I've yet to see or read how any of the three were his fault. Two penalties he had no part in. First one he guessed correctly and got his finger tips to it, but not enough to push it around the bar, second he simply chose the wrong side. Very typical of any penalty. The other goal wouldn't have been stopped by Stephen Cluxton (in my opinion maybe the best keeper in the last 20 years). Most of his kick outs were well placed and timed. Don't have stats, but again I'd be fairly certain he made no more mistakes than any one single player. If I'm wrong, no problem. What facts back that up! I'll take the correction. The Kildare keeper made a sensational stop today, but again when you watch it again, it was poorly taken without conviction. Still a class save though.

Only one mention of the diabolical tackle on Soupy off the ball. Two Roscommon players "target" him as our danger man, landing on his leg and he ends up with a damaged knee. Surely not deliberate. But watch the footage again and maybe 2-3 minutes earlier the same two targeted Jamie only he was lucky and just about sidestepped them as they collided. No attention brought to the the ref?? If you watch the footage you can see the linesman on the stand side talking on his radio and Gough replying to something. Could they have been talking about it, but didn't bother doing anything? Who knows, but a great conspiracy theory!

Mouthing off, especially to the ref is never acceptable, but to do it in an empty stadium when the ref could hear the grass grow is idiotic. You've zero chance of getting away with that. Mind you, them'uns found out today not to touch the ref when he gives a free against you. Straight red card. I know, nothing to do with our game, but just wanted to gloat!!

I said earlier in the week that win, lose or draw we move on and the world keeps turning.

I did like the comment that "fans" is used loosely and looked at the title of the forum. Sure thing criticise and point out the many mistakes, but few have been there, done that. Fewer still would even if they could because they don't have what it takes, but still think they know better. Some actually have and could. They are more measured in their response and actually add something constructive.

This time it cost zero for anyone. I say that because many have used the "we spent good money to watch that!" so they justify their being allowed to say what they want. You shouldn't need to justify it. Just do it because you believe it.

I just wish we were able to travel next week. I'd 100% be there, because when we win we win together and when we lose we lose together.

Going up can only help us develop. In the short term though we need to look at options defensively from within the squad. A number of lads out of their depth at div 2 level unfortunately.
The Clare game is going to be v tough but we're well fit to win it.

Given we rightly closed down training after so many of the boys had Covid-19, I must say I had written off the game v Roscommon, believing they had the ability to break us down.

So I was pleasantly surprised by aspects of our display.

At half-time though, I felt that Roscommon would get further major scores and that we would need to goal to compete.

Roscommon's goals against during this campaign is notable and something we could learn from.

At the start of the year, I would have but your hand off to travel to Ennis knowing that a win would secure Division 1 football so important to have perspective.

Plenty to play for in the weeks ahead and hopefully this game will bring us on.

I see Johnny Curran, former Tyrone goalkeeper died suddenly at the weekend. Only in his early 30’s.

Our rivalry with Tyrone pales into insignificance when something like this happens.

Sad news. May be rest in peace.
You're spot on Pat. I know we love to have the craic at their expense, mainly because they've been more successful, but that's what it is, a bit of craic, banter, messing. Too often a life is lost to someone in our "bigger" family and it will make us think! I've said it so often, we follow a sport. This is real life. May he be guarded by whoever he believes in. Sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues!

The point someone made here about this not being a very young team is a good one. Lots of Geezers go-to men are up on 30 (morgan, Kennedy, shields, Donaghy, paul hughes, even paddy burns is late 20's) and have been tried, tested and proven to be insufficient for division one standard football over a number of years. These lads don't owe Armagh football anything and we've no right to slate any of them - but it doesn't change the fact that if we go to Division 1 relying on them, which we are likely to do, it won't be pretty.

It is weird that years ago we couldn't break away from playing overly defensive football and now we can't seem to break away from too much of an attack emphasis. It is easy to stop our attacks - just choke the forwards with a blanket defence and we won't be able to do much. Other teams can break out and attack and our defence won't be able to cope with most forwards in the country. It does feel like our defence is being ignored because it is the same problems. I would love to see us play with a decent defence, it will allow us to play to our strengths more.

Disappointing result on sat night but lucky enough Promotion still in our own hands. Whether we are fit to reside in the upper echelons remains to be seen. As a team we are not consistent. For a time, we were good one game ,poorish the next. On Saturday a lot of that inconsistency showed up in the one game. At times very good, other times mediocre to poor. Probably our best patch was in response to the first penalty whereby we rattled of three points before the break . All excellent scores . On the resumption we went three up and then the wheels came of the wagon. From three up to four down. From the very start of the game I felt that Roscommon were more composed on the ball. Their support play was good but some good defensive work by Ryan Kennedy,Aidan Forker, allied with some poor shooting meant Armagh had the upper hand. Even after the penalty we looked a threat up front. Midfield I felt struggled although Oisin put in a strong performance Niall had one of his quieter days. When Roscommon got their tails up and their forwards in gear we weren’t going to win. The better team won.

We brought on five subs I think and Brendan Donaghy, despite being named at centre half , wasn’t one of them. Three goals would not have went in had Brendy been there to sweep and seal the middle. A fit Brendan Donaghy sitting in the stand is of no use to us. I scratch my head here .

Blaine Hughes is an good keeper. Only his inconsistency with the kickout stops him from being an excellent one. Good kick outs need a strategy from defenders midfielders and keeper of course . Movement positioning accuracy and speed are what is required. His fielding and shot stopping ability are second to none. It’s time we got off his back.

On another note I watched the Jemar incident quite a few times. I’m still of the impression as I was at the time that this was not an attempt to either gauge or seriously injure a player. He did however seem to me to be trying to pull him off or out of the way . I accept that other opinions may differ but I def know that Jemar Hall has not that streak in him. Anytime I have watched him play either against us at club level or county I have never seen anything to suggest otherwise.

I hope the Clare game goes ahead. They are a reasonable side and will pose problems but they are no Roscommon. In one way I hope my inconsistency theory is right because if it is we could be looking at Div 1 next season. Whether we are fit for it or not remains to be seen. I’d take my chances. Sorry for the longwindedness but I haven’t been on in quite a while.

lastly my sincere sympathy to the Curran family Coalisland on the death of Jonny ,Na Fianna and Tyrone goalkeeper. A Great fella that I met a few times.

I have criticised him before but I am laying off him, he has faults of course but he can only do so much - especially when two of them this weekend came from penalties.

The Clare game is the most important game we will have played for quite some time and that includes any championship game. We have one shot at promotion to division 1 and the long term value of that is massive. Physiologically alone it tells this group of players they are amongst the best in the country and then there is the experience they will gain from playing against the likes of Kerry and Dublin.

That being the case we need to treat the game as an Ireland final and if Donaghy is near fit then he needs to play. We may never get as good an opportunity again for years to come especially as it is our own hands.

So come on Geezer, take the shackles off and let the boys do what we know they are capable of. A 23 point victory is ours for the taking!!

On a related note, I can totally understand why the cheating midgits fans are so frustrated with Harte. After watching the quality at his disposal in the club championships it is a disgrace that they are so constrained by his systems. Here’s hoping he has many more years in charge!!

On a non related note Galway’s tacking is even worse than ours.
