Superb post @William Of Orange

Hard to disagree with any of it.

Genuine question to yourself and to everyone, would you prefer if we went to Omagh, parked the bus and won 7-6 in a snooze fest, or went out all guns blazing and lost 3-17 to 3-18 and possibly get relegated?
I want to win against Tyrone full stop . It’s not that I’m looking to play wide open total football, I want us to play to our strengths. I don’t think going ultra defensive will suit this team , the way we have won games is again quick transition from defense to attack , long diagonal balls into our forward line , keeping O’Neill close to the opponents square ,since we are playing forwards in defence and a midfielder in goals this means we should be putting them in positions were they should be able to break the lines and score . The team looks unsure and lacking in confidence, this had spread into the terraces , that’s a big change from last summer and the majority of the league last year , excluding the Donegal blips , currently we are not playing attractive football nor are we winning , but Sunday give me the win anytime .

tbf playing defensively hasnt really worked, given that we have only beaten the bottom two teams and the Mayo result was as a result of some chaos football then management have to reassess the situation.
i would say that watching armagh the system seems to be the be all and end all, we arent playing off the cuff its slow rigid and sideways and awful to watch. Whats more is that i think the players are uncomfortable with it and with the constant chopping and chamging of players/positions.
Cahair O Kane called it today in the Irish News.

We have two excellent ball winners in O’Neill and Murnin , play them outside the square and kick the ball into them on Sunday . Not the most sophisticated strategy I know but maybe worth a rattle .
An asute Mayo based poster on Gaaboard wondered why Armagh did not make more use of the forward mark. The likes of O'Neill or Murnin are well able to win marks, and we have players well able to kick an accurate ball so that they could do so. I'm not a particular fan of the forward mark, but it is within the rules and we should use it.

Ach, sophistimacated my eye.

If we have excellent ball winners (who are also good scoring forwards), why wouldn’t you play to their strengths, and kick the ball into them?

It won’t work 100% of the time. But while the ball is around the oppositions goal area, they still have to get their hands on it, and deal with it.

When Donaghy was fetching everything at FF for Kerry back in the day, and scoring/laying it off to others, were Kerry folk bemoaning that tactic? Were they frig! It was mightily effective, so of course their game plan was focused around him and his ballwinning abilities.

Yeah agree. Play to your strengths. Grugan, Nugent, Turbitt and others all well able to win ball or get on breaks if it’s kicked inside. No harm in having that defensive set up as a string to our bow if needed, but plan A should be fast attacking play with ball kicked in.

In this instance, I couldn't disagree more. The fine lines that I have referred to have been down to individual errors of judgement, wrong choices, desperately poor execution and indiscipline. I'm at a loss as to how you can blame that on the system.
Indiscipline totally on the player. The gumshield thing is a particular annoyance.

The others, poor choices, execution etc. are in my view a combination of the player and the style/system which is management responsibility. My rationale for this is, as I have posted previously, the concentration levels required to maintain this style will sap players mentally resulting in errors, having to run the length of the field as we break away (probably having just done it the opposite way to defend) will result on an increased chance of poor shot/pass decision or execution. So again the solution is in finding the balance in how we play and to be fair in apportioning blame.

Agree with this post, imagine fully fit squad having murnin and Rian left up with Grugan maybe just beyond half way to supply, keep those 3 up we have pace around them in mcquillan when on and turbitt and if if oisin O'Neill to rotate in and out of full forward and midfield with Rian if needed, mayo are heralded as a attacking team and they always keep 3 up I'd do the same 2 big men and one in front 2 half forwards and midfield helping defend should be loads

Interesting to see what set up we go with on Sunday. Will we continue with the more defensive set up or will we let loose a little bit more.

Tyrone have been good the past 2 match but overall I still feel there is something not quite right within their camp. Omagh a very difficult place to go but we are more than capable of going there and getting a result.

However I would be confident that Mayo will beat Monaghan which will make our result irrelevant. I know a few have said about Mayo resting players. But they are in the league final a week before they play in Championship. I feel they are more likely to rest players then. The Monaghan game they might see as the perfect opportunity to go full strength and get a good run out before the Championship.

Not really
Tickets can be easily refunded as it's an online transaction

I know the Armagh camogs played in Healy park over the weekend. They'd be able to say what it was like.

But that pitch will be heavy and not suitable for open direct play a lottery
