Overall I think it was a strong league campaign with the second halves of Roscommon and Galway being the main reasons for relegation.

All teams are playing a certain way and given that during the league no two team selections were the same and arguably missing 3-5 first team starters in every game I thought the squad did well.

Andy Murnin has been our best player so far with forker, Ciaran Mackin, Jarly og, Ethan and Aaron McKay and Barry McCambridge not far behind.

TK missed six months of game time and is getting back into it.

Forwards are moving well and great to see Niall Grimley in such great form last Sunday after the serious injury he suffered last year

When Rian, Paddy Burns (who played well when available), James Morgan, Conor ONeill, Ben crealey Ross McQuillan become available again and the likes of Shane mcPartlan, Cian McConville, Justin Kieran push on we have a squad as good as what's out there.

Not sure about Mark Shields, Ciaron Ohanlon, Niall Rowland, Ciaran Higgins(hugely underrated player) - they'll certainly push everyone

Dublin got relegated last year, Mayo the year before.
It's always great to dine at the top table - but if we can push through Ulster and the AI series can be a minefield where the squad will be very important - we will have a great season.

Bounce back next year to division one and keep bringing U20s and others into the squad
Agree with strength of squad and that burns mccambridge and McKay have been very good, I agree as well with Higgins he seemed to be ahead of mccambridge last year but he must be injured, great that we have the depth that we do it was tested this league, I wanted the league to use fringe and younger players. Next year we can't afford to have a bad league campaign which is the down side of division 2

In games where fine margins mean a lot:
Andy Murnin fielded a kickout - he seemed to injure himself, ball went loose. Normally ref gives the mark. No mark given Tyrone score a point. Andy going off was a huge loss to Armagh.
Ciaran Mackin puts his body in for a loose ball and takes a knock. Ref hops the ball instead of Armagh free
Tyrone players constantly threw the head back and put an arm up when being tackled -:ref more often than not gives advantage or a free.

Jarly og being fouled -:ref goes to blow whistle, doesn't, seconds later it's a free out to Tyrone.

The list against the ref is long and given that was, I'm told, his first game of the league maybe he needed another game to get backup to speed.

Thought the episode above refered to in bold was pivotal.

Thanks for this post and offering a brighter view of the overall bigger picture.
Its true, with championship a few weeks aaway we are beginning to gather as close to a full panel as we have had for a while. Delighted to see Grimley back and play his part in an intense, full blooded game. A boost for us.
Just hoping Murnin not out for any length of time. With Grimley (and possibly Crealey) operating in midfield, O'Neil and Murnin will likely have more time foraging up front-a combination that wil give any defence headaches.

McCambridge one of the few positives to come out of that campaign, probably a nailed on starter now!

I’m not sure who said Mayo are great but to deny they’re a top 4 team is, in my humble opinion, incorrect. Only for a generational Dublin team they would probably have a couple of all Ireland’s
A top four team maybe, but mayo wouldn't win an all Ireland if they were in the final by themselves. An in built level of stupidity which is unlikely to see them lift an AI any time soon

No incentive to win an ulster championship.. other than keeping their job maybe

The gist of what he’s saying is spot on though. Imagine structuring a season where last years all Ireland winners have time to go to Portugal for two weeks, while there are teams competing in league finals with no rest between league & championship. The shortened season is highlighting the problems caused by provincial series. Time to scrap the whole thing & run a two-way league. It would benefit the integrity of the league as well as resolve these issues, individual games would have less significance so there’s less of an impact of when you meet other teams. Eg Armagh faced a full strength kerry & Mayo, where Monaghan & Donegal played totally different versions of those teams. Similarly would reduce the impact of having either 3 or 4 home games.

I read it and my first impression was he's not sincere, and what he says in public is very different to privately around the squad......At least I hope so. As we make an absolute dogfight of 90% of games regardless of opposition , there's hardly an easier route than the other when it comes to Armagh.

Absolutely agree on the league, a 2 way league would get my support and the final places feeds into All Ireland 1/4 finals (maybe preceeded by a knock out round prior to 1/4s for lower finishes, div 3/4 winners... or something to that effect) and do away with the provincials.

It has a slight whiff of pitch rolling about it.

Only one county will win it and they will be delighted to do so. On the morning of the final there will be a buzz in 2 counties.

In 2023 there won’t be a single match where both sides are not giving it 100%. That could change over time.

8 counties won’t win it and will get knocked out. They will all face disappointment but at the same time their season won’t be over (and hasn’t been for a long time). So management will have to pick up the lads and they will downplay the provincial championship at that stage.

The other provinces are potentially revived by this with the potential to scrape into a final in an easier half of the draw and play with the big boys thereafter.

Question which team performed well against Armagh in the league the year?
Monaghan actually played ok but we blitzed them in 15 mins second half, rossies played good second half after poor first half, same with mayo Donegal poor overall, Kerry maybe played ok in second half. Galway played decent but we where better, Tyrone played good but loads of mistakes and we could have won.
