What other changes would you have liked to seen.
First - I don’t think we should be overly fearful here. It’s a home game against a team that finished mid-table in division 3 and were well beaten in the end by an ok Louth team in championship football. Like I said, the main risk is underperforming from some psychological fatigue after the ulster final, so fresh players coming in would counter that.

McQuillan, Cumisky, Connaire Mackin and Hall could all have started and you’d still expect to win this game. A forward line of Mcquillan Grugan Cumisky, with Hall named inside but playing out, leaving Rian & Nugent inside, isn’t much lower standard than that named. The only players named who I wouldn’t have wanted benched are Rafferty, Forker, Jarly Og, two O Neill’s and Grugan. Other than that, for a game like this, anyone in the 26 for an Ulster final should be fit to come in and maintain standards.

Big game - more or less knock-out for WM - they have to win this match. They've given us trouble in the past and really hate us (not big fans of the wee-6).
They'll throw all at us and are a much better side than Antrim and stronger than Down IMO.
We are more than capable of a good win but, as we all know, we can be very sloppy collectively and tend to make things hard for ourselves.
Good luck to all players and all Keirans'!

If Westmeath get close tomorrow they will feel they’ve done well. From their point of view if we were to beat them and Tyrone then they have as good a crack at Tyrone in a neutral venue After each potentially have lost two games. We have a lot of work to get through before entertaining any ideas like that though.

This is Championship football , no messing about, start your strongest team .
Technical its not championship yet.

I still see shadow boxing next few weeks. Only after the groups does it become Championship.

You can have a team lose 3 games and still win the all ireland. Sad state of affairs

We need to treat it as such. Need to aim to top the group or at least come second. Come 3rd and we’ll have to go to Killarney knowing our luck. Even the Rossies or Monaghan away would be tough.

Folks. Was registered years ago. Just renewed but have dipped in and out over the years to see how the orchard have been progressing. Also we are due to meet ye on the 17th so a lot could be at stake on that date. Just to respond to the thing about academy/facilities and underage development. 20 yrs ago after we had a couple of all irelands we developed an 'ahead of it's time' football centre of excellence. Great foresight. As Galway is largely 50/50 between football and hurling the old hurling board went off some years later to develop a hurling centre of excellence. Never happened but then the boards unified and all County teams in both codes use the original centre of excellence. Probably not fit for purpose but it is what it is. Anyway we have managed to have a reasonable pathway of underage primarily due to good coaching. Reality is you need both but the coaching structure is critical including the involvement of past players. I think from an outside perspective Armagh are going well although your more front foot style last year may be more beneficial to the type of player ye have.

Technically speaking a team could could lose 24 games and still win the English premier league. It will never happen though.

A team could lose 3 games and win the All Ireland. Not much chance of it happening though. It could only really happen if a team seriously turned around it fortunes mid season, overcame the penalties for finishing 3rd and excelled in true knock out games. Hardly undeserving.

Not very long ago a team could win the AI by wining 2 meaningful matches.

What your point?

I just commented thats its not really championship yet

Take them lads next to us... where very good v monaghan in first half and unlucky to lose. Last week man down and lost by 3. Would it be all that big of a surprise if they were to lose to us and beat westmeth.

They would be only slightly worse off then a team that won their proivce and toped their group.

Also flip of that we could lose 3 and then be in knockout.

I was just saying that championship hasnt started yet and i expect a bit more shadow boxing in some game.

I was just responding to the last paragraph of your original post.
