The overriding emotion this morning is utter dejection and disappointment. To put in a performance like that against an inferior side is really reflective of our season overall
What makes you think their inferior to us?

Over the past 5 years they have won more ulsters, beat more div 1teams in championships, survived in div 1. What have we done?

Think there is a kick of a ball between both team but they are far from inferior to us.

I'm not on the county panel, this is a forum where we discuss the football, IMO Grugan is really important for us in organising our forwards and the play goes through him alot but again IMO he is not good at tackling and his tracking back looks like he isn't trying sometimes, he is a top player and I'd personally prefer him in the full forward line and drift out to playmake, I dunno if it's tactics but I noticed alot of the time Grugan and Campbell where very deep collecting the ball, even behind our full back line, and on their kick outs crealy was just ahead of full back line. What I will say is I don't like their style of play but fair play to Monaghan they always get the max out of their pick and they are a county that has a population that wouldn't even fill croke park
2 great players for us but both totally out sorts yesterday unfortunately.

They are far from inferior to us. I was quietly confident going in to the game yesterday. When I seen McIlroy was starting ahead of turbo that started to disappear. Not a criticism of him by the way.

Geezer came in after a narrow AIQF loss and the truth is we haven’t progressed in those terms. Maybe it is time for a change

I'm not sure if I have anything constructive to say that hasn't already been said.
But whilst we know there are more bad days than good days where sport is concerned, I was generally of the opinion that the bad days were outweighed but the good, but after yesterday I'm not sure that is the case.
That disappointment is up there with the 2003 all ireland final, I am devastated.
And i can't begin to imagine how our players and management must be feeling today.
Fair fucks to Monaghan. Cory is squeezing every ounce out of what I believe is a very ordinary but well drillled team.

I should have rephrased that - I think they have inferior players to us, bar one or two. But yes as a team, they maximise what they've got. We don't.

Also the behaviour on the hill was disgraceful and an absolute embarrassment to our jersey. I hope those involved are identified from the video footage and handed appropriate bans.
It casts our fans in a very negative light which it's entirely unfair for the 99% of dedicated and decent Armagh supporters. And more importantly someone could have got seriously injured.

While we can be counted as unlucky to have lost 3 - no big surprise really considering we dont have an actual keeper - we never should have been in any penalty shoot out
Yes agree. And that's no criticism of ethan...he's been mostly good this year and done everything that's been asked of him. But having a midfielder in nets and for 3 important pentaly shoot outs isn't great. He doesn't seem to be coming out anymore as they're mostly going for kickouts, which the opposition turn over a lot (not ethan's fault), but wonder why he isn't roaming the way he was last year. Who are our sub keepers, is there anyone in the pipeline?

Whats the age profile of forker grugan murnin soupy...32/33? Do these lads have another year in their legs?

Haven't seen the video, I was on the hill.
Had to move a couple times to get away from aggressive monaghan lads.
Not saying the armagh fans weren't up to no good but all I saw was drunk monaghan louts.

I’m guessing grigan murnin soupy around 31/32 due to that minor 2009 win. I think forker could be a year or two younger than them

I hope that team off players will be back next year, the lads have given it their all for the Armagh Jersey. My views on management are well known, I would have loved to have been proven wrong about them unfortunately and sadly am not. I hope they do the decent thing and stand down and give these wonderful group of players the best chance they can have in the future.

It's pretty damning of both sets of supporters. Kicks, punches and people falling to the ground. In a stand of metal railings and concrete.

It never gets any easier. Each Armagh Championship exit seems to have a special twist of the knife, and last night was no exception.

I've often said that Geezer has to be one of the unluckiest managers about. At a guess, I'd venture there have been no more than 5/6 Senior Championship penalty shoot outs. We have now been in three and lost each one.

That said, my sense is that there was more than bad luck at play, as I felt we did not take the opportunity to impose ourselves on what I consider a marginally inferior team. That was never more evident than during the ten minutes of the black card, when we allowed Monaghan to run down the clock. I felt more urgency on our part at that time, had the potential to open up a telling 2/3 point lead.

We also spurned some great opportunities for goals and indeed points which all added to my belied that Armagh continue to lack a ruthless streak.

Another hugely eventful year ends in bitter disappointment again, with a definite feeling of a wonderful opportunity spurned.

A sense now that there will be decisions to be made by a lot of influential people which will have significant impacts for us moving forward, so appropriate to thank everyone involved for their commitment this year. Still some great memories despite the disappointments.

I wouldn't swap my County for any other.

Roll on 2024.
I was thinking the same last night
It was as if someone sat down and said how could we possibly make armaghs exit even more excruciating for their supporters than last year…

Awful stuff. The drunkeness was on a scale I don't recall from when I was in my 20s at matches and that's only afew years ago. Also have no time for flares, they're highly dangerous. Not sure what gaa/croke Park can do about it other than more vigorous checks on booze and flares going in

Just watching replay of last free. We collectively stopped after Rian's 'winner' once again.
Beggan's free though - we've got to push up and mark everyone and force him to shoot - we had loads of time to organise that. They found Mansy - the king of buying frees, and it was Newry all over again. So frustrating!!!

You'd think after 2 major penalty shootouts in the last year we'd have practiced taking penalties.
It's not rocket science.

Someone above said that Geezer must be one of the unluckiest managers around.

I would say he is one of the luckiest. Who else with his record of success (ie lack of) would have got 9 years at the helm?

Great player- but limited tactics wise as a manager. I said it before, what would we have achieved if we had had a Malachy O'Rourke, Jim McGuinness or Jim Gavin in charge? That is where we should be aiming

I never have a drink at a match but not going on here to lambast those who do.

What people do when drunk, when it spills over into violence is a different matter.

There should be a simple rule for anyone engaged in violence inside a GAA stadia: life time ban from all GAA grounds. Make it that simple. Have a fight= get banned. Your dear old mum dies and the tea and sarnies are in the local club hall then we bring you tea and sandwiches out to the gate but you don’t get to cross the threshold. Keep it nice and simple.

This result is the worst since Fermanagh 2004

I guess the one good thing about the new format is that by end of this month the championship will be over and we will be focusing on club championship and next year comes soon enough.

I do feel a rebuilding process is going to be needed though. Forker, Grugan, Murnin, Campbell, Morgan are players that have limited if any time left at all. All will be 32/33 next year given they played on the 09 minor team. They have also a serious mileage in the legs and truth be told it was showing on Grugan yesterday. He had run himself into the ground though as he usually does. There is a limited mileage in players and they may need to be impact subs soon. That leaves us needing to unearth new players and fast. Are they out there?

I thought this year would be the last throw of the dice for this team, maybe with the right impoteous we could give it a fair lash next season. Though we need to make sure we finish as high up the division 2 table or look for promotion. Is there enough doggedness and desire in Armagh to try one last time? Does a fully fit Oisin o Neill and Tiernan Kelly give a bit of drive and directness to this team? Is there another keeper out there to allow Rafferty to move to midfield, because I really think we are robbing Peter to pay Paul with Rafferty in nets. We need him at midfield.

If this team doesn't stay together and give it one last lash then I feel we will drift further away than ever. I really do hope there are the legs to try again and to help blood whatever else there is talent wise in the county that may make a breakthrough in club championship and league next year.
